While listening to my Pandora mix, I started to wonder about bands of today. One is that I nothing about them because I’ve hit that age. The other is that I don’t hear a lot of bands doing mixing styles like this. Listen to ‘Rock You Like a Hurricane’ and then jump into this. An interesting switch. Does anyone do the rock ballad any more? Seriously, let me know of any bands that have the versatility of the older groups.
Also, I love this song.

Well… I think GnR tried with the latest Chinese Democracy… which I can’t remember if I listened to it or not…. so….. yeah there needs to be a resurgence of some rock ballads, I am all for this 🙂

I think Shinedown does something like it. It’s hard to tell with a lot of bands because they sound so different.
Didn’t listen to Chinese Democracy. Wouldn’t be surprised if Axl did it though.

oh yeah I like Shinedown. Good stuff there. Although I think they do have their own unique take on it.

I’m into Skillet and Theory of a Deadman too. Though, Theory is a lot darker and curse-filled than I expected. Not that I mind.

I often think about how either I’ve reached that age, or there aren’t any epic bands out there anymore. No Queen. No Beatles. No Scorpion. GnR. Bon Jovi. U2. Am I unaware, or has rock shifted so much that there is no such thing as the epic band anymore?

Rock has definitely shifted, but I’m finding a few good ones. Shinedown, Theory of a Deadman, and Skillet are a few, but I got into the louder rock when I was in college. Might have helped with the transition.

I have become a fan of Indie rock and especially Canadian bands like Wake Owl. Lots of ballads with emotion, angst and questions. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sOl-xR_laLk

When we keep it in
Things we don’t remember
When they ask us “when”
We did the things
That we learned we shouldn’t do again
What wasn’t learned from mistakes
We will make them”

I should look into Indie rock. I never know where to go, but Youtube is a good place to start.

I love 60’s and 70’s rock and bluegrass, but recently started listening in my car to the “other” stations.

I have a CD player since most of the stations around me are static or Pop.

I am big fan of the music of my youth, 60’s, 70’s rock, but I also like bluegrass. Recently I have been venturing out a bit into unchartered territory!! CBC 3 can be streamed online: http://music.cbc.ca/#/radio3/
Pandora is great, once you create a station you like.

That’s what I did when I figured it out. A lot of 70-90’s rock and some metal. Though, it seems obsessed with Journey and Ozzy Osbourne at times.

I am afraid of scorpions. Nah. Not really.

Not sure what I think about scorpions. Like the band, the Spider-Man villain, and the Mortal Kombat character. The real thing looks like a horrific mix of spider, lobster, and stingray.

Gosh, I haven’t a heard a truly good rock ballad in years. That was all you heard in the 80’s. Big hair and rock ballads flashbacks! lol

I have a vague memory of those times. Probably because I was born in 1980.
