Specter of the Town

Community Storyboard Weekly Prompt:  This Old House

This old house
I remember as a child
Gutted by fire
Decorated by deviants
Storms batter its shell
Yet it still stands tall

This old house
Stories were told
Legends of death and ghosts
None with any proof
Made to keep us out
When our curiosity was young

This old house
My town’s silent specter
It holds my fears and dreams
Abandoned and unloved
Until the day I make it
My new house

About Charles Yallowitz

Charles E. Yallowitz was born, raised, and educated in New York. Then he spent a few years in Florida, realized his fear of alligators, and moved back to the Empire State. When he isn't working hard on his epic fantasy stories, Charles can be found cooking or going on whatever adventure his son has planned for the day. 'Legends of Windemere' is his first series, but it certainly won't be his last.

I felt a wave of sadness as I read that. I guess it’s the “abandoned and unloved” part. But very evocative.

A house is definitely not a home without people living within its walls.
