It’s come to my attention that I need to work on my book blurbs. Mostly, I end them as if my books are from a 1950’s radio serial. Sad thing is that is the kind of voice going through my head when I write them.
Since the blurb is the introduction between my book and a potential reader. Below is the blurb for Prodigy of Rainbow Tower in its current form. I would greatly appreciate any feedback on this:
The action-packed, humor-filled, dramatic sequel to ‘Legends of Windemere: Beginning of a Hero’.
Battling through a demonic assassin and an army of monsters, Luke Callindor has survived to graduate from Hamilton Military Academy. Now, Luke and his friends must leave the safety of the academy to escort Duke Solomon’s heir down the L’dandrin River and into the safety of the city of Gods’ Voice. Joining them for this journey is Nyx, a powerful caster apprentice of Rainbow Tower. With her talent for combat magic and her short temper, Nyx will prove to be a challenge for Luke and all of their enemies.
Who will survive the harrowing trip down the L’dandrin River? And, who will be the one to break Luke’s trust?
Statements, hate mail, suggestions?

You spelled humour wrong lol.
I don’t like the spoiler stating he graduated. One of the main selling points for book one as of yesterday (pre edit blurb) was not knowing if he graduated. Why read book 2 if you already know that. It is a privilege to be a thorn in your arse.

I meant why read book 1. I’m tired.

Maybe put ‘Battling through a demonic assassin and an army of monsters, Luke Callindor has survived his time at Hamilton Military Academy.’

Much better:)

Thanks. Do the questions still look like I’m channeling old radio hosts? Sadly, not the good ones.

Nope. Not anymore. I think you have graduated with Luke. How’s Fizzle today?

He’s enjoying the attention of ‘Ask a Character’. In the 5th book, he’s watching his friends plan to take on 2 armies, a moat monster, an insane gypsy, and the Lich. He doesn’t think they know what they’re doing, but he’s used to that from Luke.

Send him my love.

I will. He’s a cuddler, so I might need help getting away from him.

I want to love him and squish him and hug him and call him fizzie

I can so see a child doing that to him.

are you calling me a child? I like it.

Aren’t we all children playing in our fun, magical worlds? 😉

I meant artists in general due to their high level of imagination and would greatly appreciate not getting blunt objects through at me.

lol. I’m a terrible shot anyway. Besides, without you there is no Fizzle and without Fizzle I would die.

It’s becoming stiff competition for most popular character. Between Stiletto, Fizzle, and Nimby, it’s hard to tell who has the bigger fan-base.
LikeLike
I like dogs. I like dragons. Fizzle wins. Nimby ha enough fans he can fend for himself.
LikeLike
True. I’d worry about his fans though. Poor Aedyn is alone in the dark. Even the Lich has a fan, but nobody mentions Aedyn.

Also, since I have started play acting at writing my new book, I have a character named Challow, he is in your honour. Smart, sassy, stubborn.

Thank you. I’m blushing. Is he human?

He orf. half elf half orc.

That’s going to be interesting. Also, a bit self-loathing if you go with the orcs and elves hate each other tradition. I like the sassy part.
LikeLike
There is a bit of that tradition going on, the good news is, you are leading a revolt so it will all work out okay. You get to slaughter some members of each side in a quest for peace and domination. You’re going to rock it.

Woo-hoo! I’m really curious to read about this guy and see how he fights.

What was your position in D&D?

If I wasn’t running the game, I was the guy that angered the game master for doing the unexpected. Group position varied because I was always experimenting, but I probably had more agile fighters than other character types.

Perfect. See you can fill the orf shoes. (them are some damn big shoes)

Makes sense. I’m cursed with wide feet, so shoe shopping is a pain.

Is he going to be a main or supporting character? You know, I’m totally turning my gears on how to return the honor. 😀

I am still figuring out how I want to divide this book. If it makes any sense, I was originally going to have two different series that would intersect eventually. Now I’m thinking there may be two main characters, one chapter about one one chapter about the other until they meet for the latter half of the book. So I guess that would make you half the main character. my head hurts.
LikeLike
I get it. I have webs going through all of my series, so that’s easy for me to understand. Just say ensemble piece or duet. It’ll make the ache go away.
Hmmm. I do need a better name for a supporting character that is in book 3 and is connected to a talking squirrel.

got any crab apples?

No, but Nyx doesn’t take to the critter too well. Poor thing is on the wrong end of a few of her spells and it’s master doesn’t do anything to stop it.

Squirrels running rampant is very important to successful fiction.

Especially the bright orange, talking variety.

Wait. I thought humor and humour were interchangeable. At least my spellchecker says humour isn’t a real word, but it’s still fighting me on character names.
I had wondered about that issue. To even have the second book reveals that Luke survived and graduated. So, I didn’t know how big a sticking point that was.

I’m just teasing you about humor/humour.

Ah. I couldn’t tell because I’ve had people pounce on me for dialog/dialogue. It was a big fight over Facebook. I think I lost friends on that one.
LikeLike
I gotta go with dialogue. Your take?
LikeLike
I’ve found that I use both depending on my mood and the situation. I’ve I’m typing quickly in a casual conversation, I use dialog. If I’m being serious then dialogue is used. The debate was mostly over if dialog was a viable option or if it was a misspelling that people mistook for a real word.

Who is this handsome rogue who haunts her dreams? A man with a dark past and an uncertain future, come to destroy her? Or is he her salvation … Oh wait. Sorry, wrong genre.

Sounds like the right genre, but I don’t think I can use it. Luke kind of fits that, but Nyx doesn’t dream about him.
