Progress on Vacation!

I actually manged to get the villains done for the first 3 books of ‘Tales of the Slumberlord’.  The next book has some easy ones (all Hellfire Elves), but the book after that is one that has no level of outlining.  It’s a late addition that popped into my head a grew like a euphoric migraine headache.  So, I’ll be spending my nights with character creation and reading an eBook during the day.  Going for ‘The Faerie Guardian’ by Rachel Morgan since I recently finisher her teaser for the full novel.  Hitting it while the information is still in my head.  Once that’s done, I’m tackling ‘Cupcake’ by Mariah Jones.  Basically, I’m moving from shortest to longest book in my collection.

That is until next week when I have to drop what I’m doing at 3pm when the toddler comes home.  My wife starts a new temp job next week and hopefully it will turn into a permanent position.  So, good news on that front even though it means she comes home just in time to bathe the munchkin.  Unless we push his bath back to 6:30, but that tends to be pushing it with his morning wake-up.

Addition:  I added another mile to my morning biking, so I’m up to 12 miles in 35 minutes.  I’m happy about it, but my legs and thighs aren’t too thrilled.

Finally, I’m strongly considering doing a sneak peek of Allure of the Gypsies today.  I just need to find a scene that is interesting, but doesn’t reveal too much.  Considering tossing in another Nyx vs Trinity fight with Sari on the sidelines.  Either that or one that reveals the REAL reason Luke Callindor ran away from home.  What?  You thought it was only to be a great hero?  Nope.  The little idiot left a mess back in Haven.  Anybody have a preference?  I’m going to post it around 12pm EST (lunch!)

About Charles Yallowitz

Charles E. Yallowitz was born, raised, and educated in New York. Then he spent a few years in Florida, realized his fear of alligators, and moved back to the Empire State. When he isn't working hard on his epic fantasy stories, Charles can be found cooking or going on whatever adventure his son has planned for the day. 'Legends of Windemere' is his first series, but it certainly won't be his last.

Cool! You’re making great progress. I understand the migraine part. Sometimes those characters haunt us in our sleep if we don’t get to work on their stories.

    • I’m still not sure where this story came from. I think I had another character who debuted in a solitary story and then ended up in a big series. There was no transition to explain how she went from ‘slave of monsters’ to ‘slightly talented thief’, so I slipped her into this series to fix that. It also made me realize that she was carrying around a curse that I hadn’t recognized. She’s a monster magnet.

  4. Where is the vacation part?

    • Reading and outlining is technically a vacation. I’m not pouring over a novel or editing notes, which has been my life since last May. I’m just having trouble falling into the relaxing part because of outside influences.

I’ve done so much editing lately I’m beginning to wonder if I can still write. 🙂

      • That was my fear after editing 3 novels in a row and then pouncing on my fourth. The shocking thing was that the fourth took longer to write, but the first draft was tighter. It was like I already knew the mistakes that I was constantly doing, so I was fixing them as I went along. It still needed some work afterwards, but it didn’t feel as cruddy as my previous first drafts.

That’s good to know. I’m in the same boat. I have three novels written (actually more, but that’s another story) and now I need to get them edited. Wow, it’s hard… and I keep second guessing myself, even after my critique partners say it’s fine!

      • Same here. I’ve learned to trust my beta readers more than myself because I’m my worst critic. I’m curious how many novels you have written.

      • Wow. I’ve only got 4 finished novels, so you win. I’m going to need a few years to catch up. 🙂
