My birthday kicked off early and I now own a Kindle. Just the version called Paper for reading only. I’ve already downloaded a few books/novellas. I’ll be reviewing them as I finish, which might take some time. When I finish editing my book, I’m going to take a week off for a combination of reading, outlining, and Super Smash Melee on the Gamecube.
My question is this: When it lists the page amount of an eBook, is that Kindle pages or real book pages?

Happy early birthday! I have the original Nook and I know it may have multiple pages for every real page. Depends on the type size. My iPad is different though. I just try not to look at number of pages. I just read. You should be able to see how many chapters though. Have fun reading!

Thanks. I was just wondering because a few of the books are 380-390 pages. I think I can get them read pretty easily during my vacation week, but I was just curious. The thing already has me clocked and says I can finish a 138 pager in 1 hour and 14 minutes, but that might be because I got lost and hit the button too often.

Ha! I downloaded your book today in iBooks. It shows it is 700+ pages. I don’t know how close that is to the Kindle version.

Wow. It’s listed as 341 for Kindle, but that’s the Word size. I guess that’s the eBook version. If it makes you feel any better, I keep getting told my book is a quick, exciting read.
Makes me worried about it’s longer siblings that are on the way. Eek!

Thanks. At least I’m in the queue. 🙂 Guess I need to get used to saying that too. So many things in the queue and I just got it.

Happy Birthday and congrats on the Kindle! I love mine, I have an original Kindle. I downloaded another 60 books today(all free of course, cuz I am cheap). I stopped paying attention to page size, unless I am reviewing a book.
An awful lot of excellent books available for the price of free. I think I have only paid for a handful of books.

I’ve actually gone with authors I’ve met on Facebook for my first set. I should start looking at free at some point. I’ll admit that as a .99 cent author, I feel like I have to support my people. 🙂

I agree, have to support the peeps. Though every time I see a give away, I am all over that. I should review every Kindle book I have read. That would give me posts for the next 3 years….. 😉

Happy bday, Charles. 🙂 It’s kindle pages, because, as mentioned, you can alter the font size. Pages will vary from reader to reader. Good choice of product, I kinda prefer the e-ink displays to tablet PCs or the newer Kindle Fire. E-ink display is a little easier on the eyes. That said, I got a cheap tablet PC from China that is PERFECT for graphic novels, so that’s nice. The future – today! Whee! 🙂

Thanks. My sister has the Kindle Fire, but I really didn’t need another piece of technology to check my email and play on the internet. It’s weird that I can’t see myself reading a graphic novel on a machine. I read webcomics and regular comics, but that’s something that I always want to be able to hold in my hand. Guess it comes with the old age.

I sold the fire and returned the HD. I have a regular Kindle Keyboard if that’s what you meant =P

No. An ebook is software portraying one long flow of text – it has no pages. eReaders currently paginate with ‘location’ numbers but all device manufacturers are working on solutions because as the situation stands, citations and references cannot be made to professional standards. You can expect a software update to match electronic pages with printed ones at some future stage (shouldn’t be too long as they’re all anxious to be the first one to tap into the academic market). The only thing that is certain is that you will greatly enjoy your birthday gift.

Thanks. Didn’t realize there was still an area that they were fighting to get into. Guess that’s a sign that textbooks might be replaced with eReaders at some point.

Thanks. The big day isn’t until Tuesday, but I decided to do an early post in case I was too busy. Low chance of it, but it could happen.
