Kindle Question

My birthday kicked off early and I now own a Kindle.  Just the version called Paper for reading only.  I’ve already downloaded a few books/novellas.  I’ll be reviewing them as I finish, which might take some time.  When I finish editing my book, I’m going to take a week off for a combination of reading, outlining, and Super Smash Melee on the Gamecube.

My question is this: When it lists the page amount of an eBook, is that Kindle pages or real book pages?

About Charles Yallowitz

Charles E. Yallowitz was born, raised, and educated in New York. Then he spent a few years in Florida, realized his fear of alligators, and moved back to the Empire State. When he isn't working hard on his epic fantasy stories, Charles can be found cooking or going on whatever adventure his son has planned for the day. 'Legends of Windemere' is his first series, but it certainly won't be his last.

  1. Happy early birthday! I have the original Nook and I know it may have multiple pages for every real page. Depends on the type size. My iPad is different though. I just try not to look at number of pages. I just read. You should be able to see how many chapters though. Have fun reading!

    • Thanks. I was just wondering because a few of the books are 380-390 pages. I think I can get them read pretty easily during my vacation week, but I was just curious. The thing already has me clocked and says I can finish a 138 pager in 1 hour and 14 minutes, but that might be because I got lost and hit the button too often.

Happy Birthday and congrats on the Kindle! I love mine, I have an original Kindle. I downloaded another 60 books today(all free of course, cuz I am cheap). I stopped paying attention to page size, unless I am reviewing a book.

An awful lot of excellent books available for the price of free. I think I have only paid for a handful of books.

Happy bday, Charles. 🙂 It’s kindle pages, because, as mentioned, you can alter the font size. Pages will vary from reader to reader. Good choice of product, I kinda prefer the e-ink displays to tablet PCs or the newer Kindle Fire. E-ink display is a little easier on the eyes. That said, I got a cheap tablet PC from China that is PERFECT for graphic novels, so that’s nice. The future – today! Whee! 🙂

No. An ebook is software portraying one long flow of text – it has no pages. eReaders currently paginate with ‘location’ numbers but all device manufacturers are working on solutions because as the situation stands, citations and references cannot be made to professional standards. You can expect a software update to match electronic pages with printed ones at some future stage (shouldn’t be too long as they’re all anxious to be the first one to tap into the academic market). The only thing that is certain is that you will greatly enjoy your birthday gift.
