Yeah. I knew I said I wouldn’t do these any more, but this one lets me talk about my books instead of random facts. This time around, I’m doing Prodigy of Rainbow Tower.
Thank you to When I Became an Author for nominating me for this author-specific blog.
The Next Big Thing is part interview and part award, consisting of a series of questions about a writer’s latest work and how it came to be.
What is the working title of your book? Legends of Windemere: Prodigy of Rainbow Tower. This is the sequel to my first book, Legends of Windemere Beginning of a Hero.
What genre does your book fall under? It’s an epic fantasy with lots of action, humor, and some drama.
What is the one sentence synopsis of your book? Luke and his friends have survived their first adventure, but will the addition of the temperamental caster Nyx be enough to see them to the end of their journey.
Where did you get the idea for your book? As before, the first 3-5 books of this series is based on a Dungeons & Dragons game. This adventure is the second semester of gaming, so much of the adventure is based on that. I changed and spruced everything up as I went along to make it more book worthy.
Who or what inspired you to write this book? I’m not really sure what the difference between this question and the last question is. I was inspired by the love of writing and being involved in a great story that everyone wanted me to tell.
How long did it take you to write the first draft of your manuscript?
The first draft for Prodigy of Rainbow Tower took me about a year with on and off writing. I finished it up with a week of nightly cram sessions because I wanted to get it done before moving to Florida. Made it with a day to spare.
What other books would you compare this story with in your genre?
Lord of the Rings, Game of Thrones, and various comic books. I use a lot more flashy magic than most fantasy books.
Which actors would you choose to play your characters in a movie rendition?
I’m still not a fan of this question because I know I’ll have very little influence over this and most book-to-movie franchises get relatively unknowns.
Hellfire Elf- Adam Copeland aka Edge (wrestler)
The Lich- Rhys Ifans
Luke Callindor- I’d want an unknown actor to take the lead.
Nimby- Joe Gnoffo (Grub from Mirror, Mirror)
Fritz Warrenberg- Peter Dinklage
Aedyn Karwyn- Logan Lerman
Fizzle- Michael Nichols (friend of mine from college who I promised the role to)
Trinity- Lauren Slade Wiggins (Karen from Shameless)
Nyx- Kristen Stewart
Will your book be self-published or represented by an agency? It will be published through Amazon Kindle once all the pieces are together.
What else about your book might pique your reader’s interest? This book has a lot more action and drama than its predecessor. Since Luke is already introduced, it’s time for me to see how much trauma he can take. This is the prove where I show just had mean I can be to my heroes. There’s also a major betrayal at the end.
And here are my five nominees:
