Happy St. Patrick’s Day

Don’t think I’ve ever done a St. Patrick’s Day post.  Since life is still driving me too crazy to do enough research for a good animal post, I’m going to do another holiday.  Enjoy.

By the way, I don’t really know much about this holiday.  Someone I knew claimed to be Irish and talked about this holiday being important, but they only did Irish soda bread and corned beef with cabbage.  That feels like an Americanization of something.  What does happen on this holiday?

About Charles Yallowitz

Charles E. Yallowitz was born, raised, and educated in New York. Then he spent a few years in Florida, realized his fear of alligators, and moved back to the Empire State. When he isn't working hard on his epic fantasy stories, Charles can be found cooking or going on whatever adventure his son has planned for the day. 'Legends of Windemere' is his first series, but it certainly won't be his last.

Dt. Patrick’s Day parades were held in New York even before the Revolution! I think as a way of saying, We are here and staying!

Those were good memes. Funny enough, I was explaining the basics of St. Patrick’s Day to my Swahili teacher yesterday. In Ireland, they still have parades, but there’s usually a church service earlier that day before people celebrate and pubs weren’t open on St. Patrick’s Day in that country until the 1970s. In Northern Ireland, people fly shamrock flags instead of the Irish flag given the sad national and sectarian history of that part of Europe. It actually used to be illegal centuries ago for the Irish to wear green or shamrock designs under British occupation since it symbolized the Irish rebellion back then.

  3. Love the memes. Don’t celebrate the day but it does look fun for some.
