New York State Dental Law states that as long as a person has 4 upper teeth and 4 lower teeth, it counts as a functional bite.  That means, after 2 weeks of having this hole in my tooth and suffering through stuck food, shots of pain, a constant itching, and a possible infection, my claim was:

There is another appeal going on about I ranted and cursed on the phone, but it sounds like it’s only to say they’ll cover the yanking.  For all I know, it will only cover the use of string and a slamming door.  I really hope the motherfuckers who made this rule have had all, but 8 of their teeth yanked out.  If not then I volunteer to do it since I’m not a dentist either, but I own a pair of pliers and, if need be, a hammer.  I’m sure their dental coverage will handle all expenses.

So in conclusion:

About Charles Yallowitz

Charles E. Yallowitz was born, raised, and educated in New York. Then he spent a few years in Florida, realized his fear of alligators, and moved back to the Empire State. When he isn't working hard on his epic fantasy stories, Charles can be found cooking or going on whatever adventure his son has planned for the day. 'Legends of Windemere' is his first series, but it certainly won't be his last.

  2. It’s all about collecting premiums. Paying out is not part of the plan.

Oh, Charles, you have my sympathy, We have no dental insurance, and the last (and only) time it was recommended I have a tooth pulled, I talked them into removing one of the roots instead (that was the infected part). So far, so good, and less expensive than having the tooth pulled and then paying for an implant, at least for the nonce. Take care! Your blood pressure will be next!

  4. Daaaaaaaamn that sucks 😦 Medical insurance is such a scam. Even in Canada, with free health care, we don’t actually get dental. Which makes no sense, because the last time I checked, your teeth are part of your body.

    • It is weird that dental and medical are separated. Eye care too down here. It’d be like needing a type of insurance for every part of the body. ‘We can cover your lungs since you have respiratory coverage, but those broken ribs require skeletal coverage. You have the basic, which says you’re good as long as half of the ribs are intact.’

      • I mean, I guess the theory is you’ve got the body doctor, then the eye doctor, then the tooth doctor — each specializing in their own field. Which is fair enough, because I’d rather have a doctor who knows what he/she is talking about. But when your insurance (or health care) only covers certain parts of your body … madness. Utter madness.

      • I guess each one does require a lot more specialization than everything else. At least for the doctor-side of things like you said. Insurance doing it is definitely a pain.

    • I will admit that it’s slowed me down a lot. I mentioned in the weekend post that I’m afraid it’s hurt the book I’m working on. Guess we’ll see and I’ll put some warning notes down to help with edits.

omg Charles, that`s bloody awful. Damn dentists, I`ve had my fair share of those moments with them too. I know you might not want to read this link yet, but people swear by it and it saves money at the inquisitor, sorry, dentist.

    • My wife actually does that and we use coconut oil for cooking at times. Won’t really help me since I doubt coconut oil can close a gaping hole in the tooth. Honestly, I have no problem with the dentist. My issue is with the insurance company that made this a mess that’s been dragging on for over 2 weeks.

Oh my goodness! I’m so sorry, Charles. And I definitely hear you. I had to have a tooth pulled and had the same issue. I wish you hadn’t had that too.

    • Gets even better from what I found out today. They’ll probably reject the root canal by tomorrow, but the extraction requires a new claim. That means I have to go to the dentist to get checked and they’ll send it in. It could take 3 days if expedited or 7-15 business days if it isn’t.
