Looking at what I have for Ichabod Brooks & the City of Beasts, I could probably set it up right now. It’s just that I have a feeling that this weekend might not be very good for a debut. Also my schedule is in the air.
So I’m wondering about setting it up now as a Pre-Order to get the Amazon site link. This means I can send off the mid-month guest posts, Goodreads, and the Monday ‘LIVE’ post. It takes some of the pressure off too. The thing is that I’ve never done this before and I’m not sure if it’s a good idea. More importantly, I don’t know if there’s a time limit and I’m too close to the release date to do a Pre-Order.
Has anyone out there ever done this? Do you think it’s worth doing a Pre-Order weekend to ease a potentially chaotic Monday and maybe net some extra attention? How do I even promote that?

I am the last guy to ask. Promotion is a mystery to me. I don’t think it could hurt though.

That’s what I was thinking. I thought some of my blog followers might have some experience. Promotion really is a mystery at times.

There is a pretty savvy crowd out there. I’m just not one of them. Hope you get some bites on this.

Me too. One day I hope to be in the savvy crowd. Though I don’t really like their dress code.

I like that. Made me laugh. It comes out Monday, right?

Yup. Still no idea what to do beyond the blog post. Seems silly to dump hundreds on promo stuff for a 99 cent book.

I’ve never had one that recaptured its cover art price. Maybe one day after I have 25 titles.

I don’t think this one is going to recover its cover art price for a while. Then again, who knows? Could get lucky.

I’m intrigued by the 99 cent price point. You might make it up in volume.

True. Beginning of a Hero is still 99 cents and it made the cover money back within two months. Still wish I knew what I did to cause that.

Gives me things to think about.

It helps with a series since it creates a low risk introduction. My poetry book and horror novella are 99 cents too. Nothing happens with that second one and the other has occasional blips.

There IS a deadline for setting up pre-orders; I think it’s 10 days before the release date. (Had to have my clone’s book ready before May 12 for a May 22 release.)

Dang. Guess that plan is out the window. Headache of a Monday, here I come. Hopefully I can get everything done in an hour or two.

I don’t know so I would take Thomas’ advice.

Yes, I think it’s too late to change the release date, unless you set it towards the end of June and do promotions Monday and the other posts you have planned between 12th and 14th. I’ll be posting the interview and spotlight Monday, but it will be on my other site – Writing Room 101. I’ll send you a link if you need it 😀

Thanks. I’m going to stick with the June 1st debut. July is going to be even crazier with a July 4th trip, a few birthdays, and gearing up for the release of the next Legends book.

Probably too late, but the pre-orders themselves present a few headaches, and in many cases the benefits don’t seem so clear. I tried it a couple of times, and although one time there were several orders, I can’t say it really helped. But if you can generate a ton like some authors do, maybe…

Interesting. I guess it causes a small issue where you use your marketing prior to the actual release. So people may either wait or order it then forget by the time it hits the Kindle. You lose that ‘buy to read right away’ advantage.

I hadn’t thought of that last part, but I think you’re right about it.

It just came to me when I read your comment. Sounds like a risky trade off to me.

I haven’t used pre-orders yet. I was considering it for Infinite Waters, but reading those last comments with Chris I’m leaning against it… Thanks!

Yeah. I couldn’t do it because it was so close to the release date. So all I could do is release the book and promote. Hope it does well.

I’m keeping ’em crossed 🙂

Maybe authors should say ‘toes crossed’ since we need our fingers to type.

A prince among men, you are. A prince with crossed toes, of course, but a prince nevertheless.
