New Feature and Pondering an Idea: Feedback Please?

Teaser Tuesday

That’s the name of a new feature I’m considering doing.  Taking clips from some of my books that may or may not contain spoilers.  I’ll be starting this off next week if people have an interest.  Most of it will involve Legends of Windemere and it will probably be where people are introduced to the 6th champion that has occasionally been named here. I will mention now that some pieces will come from unedited books.

An example of what to expect will be getting posted later today.  Just want to see the reaction.

Character Theme Songs

This songs weird, but it came into my head while in the shower. A few of my heroes have theme songs.  Luke and Nyx right now, but they’re old.  So I’m thinking of searching for songs that fit the others.  Only problem is that I don’t have a lot of musical knowledge and my choices can be really wrong.

My question here is if other people do this and how do they choose a song?  I currently have ‘Hold Me Down by Tommy Lee’ for Luke and ‘Girl on Fire by Rob Zombie’ for Nyx.  I’m only going to do the 6 champions and Fizzle.  Anyway, this is a silly idea I’m thinking of doing on Sunday.  Always happy to hear suggestions.

About Charles Yallowitz

Charles E. Yallowitz was born, raised, and educated in New York. Then he spent a few years in Florida, realized his fear of alligators, and moved back to the Empire State. When he isn't working hard on his epic fantasy stories, Charles can be found cooking or going on whatever adventure his son has planned for the day. 'Legends of Windemere' is his first series, but it certainly won't be his last.

I have theme songs too. Most are pretty sappy and I’m embarrassed to share them. I think it’s a great idea though, and the teasers too. I’ve been doing teasers on Pinterest and have even had some interest! Which is good, since FB and Twitter are kinda useless.

  2. You have such a large catalog that it sounds like a good idea to me. We have to try stuff. Repeating what others do is often good, until everyone is doing it. This sounds fresh and original, and I hope it fires readers up. The musical idea could be very successful too.

    • It gives me something spontaneous too since I won’t be picking a section until the weekend before. I’d do it the day of, but that’s always a risk around here.

Hoping people like the music thing. It’ll be 8 videos in one post, so not sure how many will listen to all of them. It’s definitely a fun way to get to know a character too.

I agree Charles. Try these ideas. I love the idea of you having a Pinterest board just for your Legends of Windemere characters. That could be really cool. I have my swamp fairy stuff on Pinterest (under fairies) and those are some of my top pins to be reshared… remember those women read books most times. 😀

    • Thanks. I just have to remember to pin things. If only Pinterest had an automatic posting option like other social media sites. Guess it wouldn’t make sense since you need to tell it which picture to go for.

I know. I thought about that too. I usually go back to my posts and pin them after the fact. Do it Charles. Especially if you have a large following. Your characters are quite involved. 😀

      • Thanks. Though I just realized that next Tuesday might be flooded with a bunch of author promos I volunteered for. Guess we’ll see what happens.

It is a work in progress. Just breathe… that is what I have to tell myself. 😀

  4. So many questions! Let’s see … I like the idea of Teaser Tuesday, but it would be cool if you could tie it into writing. Like, “Here’s a paragraph from Book 2, note how I use alliteration to emphasize humor” OR WHATEVER lol.

In terms of theme songs … oh yeah. I’m constantly coming up with theme songs for my characters. They don’t usually stick, though. I just listen to my ipod on shuffle, and a song randomly comes on, and I think, hey, that’s totally X’s song. Then I immediately forget about it. But for those 3 brief, beautiful minutes, my character and the song are one.

    • I can try that, but I don’t think I have anything that can be that specific. I guess I do the ‘writing’ posts so often that I never think of connecting them to the teasers. Still, you never know if something will strike. Probably depends on what I pick since I can add things from Books 1-10 on this one.

I get that way with songs too. My issue is that one line or the title makes me connect it to a character. Then I listen to the whole thing and go ‘not even close’. It’s why I’m having trouble with a few of the characters. The deeper the character, the harder it is to choose too.

Teaser Tuesday is a great idea!
I need to look you up on Pinterest!
Love the theme song idea too. I have vague ideas for theme music for my characters. I only listen to soundtracks when I write. The Dark Knight is still one of my favorites. I think of “I Am the Batman” when I think of one of my characters who is kind of a beleaguered loner.

  6. A Teaser Tuesday post is an excellent idea! As you said, there is plenty to share with 10 books already. Just make sure to post little bits so you don’t catch up to your writing.

On the music front; I have to listen to tunes with no lyrics, else those words would dominate whatever I’m writing. I guess I fall easy prey to writing what I hear. As a result, Classical takes center stage, with “smooth jazz” taking second place, but more often I find myself playing a movie instead.

  7. I like both ideas. I think they have legs. Let us vote on a couple of songs so that you are spared any mistakes.

  8. Character theme songs. Never would have thought of that, not even in the shower. 🙂 Interesting idea.

The only time I’ve ever used a theme song, sort of, was between a husband and wife. Sorry. Wish I could help, but I’d probably do more damage than anything else. Good luck!
