Possible Delay for ‘The Compass Key’

Let’s be honest here.  It wouldn’t be a Legends of Windemere debut without the threat of a delay.  Typically, it happens for various reasons and The Compass Key is looking like it won’t be the exception.  I really am at the mercy of Murphy’s Law of ‘anything that can go wrong, will go wrong’.  (Don’t care if I didn’t get the quote exact at this point.)

So the Cover Reveal might not happen on July 30th.  Jason hurt his wrist earlier this month and he’ll be at the San Diego Comic Con in a week.  This means things have been slower than expected and completion is up in the air.  I’ll get more exacts today, but I’m pushing things back and making this announcement just in case.  I’ve seen the sketches and the chosen character looks awesome.

Add into this that there have been delays in editing.  This includes me getting a bout of stomach flu and a slew of family events.  I really can’t win on this one.  I have as much set up as I can, but the truth is that its been one obstacle after another.  Even that hard drive crash caused an issue because I lost a few changes that I recently remembered to put back in.

So that is where I stand on The Compass Key right now.  Once I get the cover art, I’ll contact all the volunteers with the HTML file about 2-3 days before the reveal.  At least I’ll try for that.  I know by writing this here, certain people will come to me and talk about the ‘disaster’.  All I ask is that you don’t because I’m stressed enough about everything going wrong on this book.

One final wrinkle that I have to figure out and would like some help with . . . I have no idea what to blog about after next week.  Pushing all of the posts I have back a week has given me a gap.  I was going to do the ‘Windemere Questions’ today, but I don’t want to toss on any more future posts that I might have to reschedule.  So I’m out of ideas and would be very thankful for any suggestions.

Add-on:  Since I just finished my part of the editing run, I guess I’ll do the week of blog posts today.  Thinking of going on about ‘Books being turned into Movies/TV Shows’ and bringing in the ‘Ye Olde Shoppe’ skit.

About Charles Yallowitz

Charles E. Yallowitz was born, raised, and educated in New York. Then he spent a few years in Florida, realized his fear of alligators, and moved back to the Empire State. When he isn't working hard on his epic fantasy stories, Charles can be found cooking or going on whatever adventure his son has planned for the day. 'Legends of Windemere' is his first series, but it certainly won't be his last.

Things happen, but it’s better not to rush it and do it when it’s ready 🙂

    • I agree. Sadly, this type of thing seems to be a tradition for me. I also tend to have a handful of people that pounce on delays like this with the ‘time to get a real job’ debate.

At least I have a week to fill in the week of missing blog posts. :/

Ok no worries, why not tell us about San Diego Comic Con? I’ve never heard of it.

Oh man! I’m sorry about all of that! Keep us posted.

You could do posts on inspiration, either the things that inspired you or inspiration in general. What movie inspired you? What book? What character? What place? What song? What real-life person?

Or do posts on big questions writers ask themselves about writing, worldbuilding, and life: How far am I willing to go to see this book succeed? What do I have to offer the publishing world? Am I ready for success?

Or do posts on character virtues and how to bring those out: strength; integrity; honor; whatever.

  5. I get the shakes these days when I think I need to set a particular date for a thing – it’s rotten the way life will throw a rotten tomato and break your nose right on the day you’re due to wear your fairy princess outfit and look gorgeous at a launch – so I’m constantly scrabbling to catch up. I’d actually really like some more posts on action scenes advice from you, and maybe some tips on how to stay up to date with everything. 🙂

    • I would say to give a general idea unless you get everything early or have full control over everything. I don’t have any good tips for staying up to date since I’m always scrambling. Unless ‘fake it’ is good advice. 😉

Next week will be all action scenes from my books. I’ll have to think more on the action scene posts since I’ve written a lot on them.

I like it when you write about your toddler. What were you doing before you left what you were doing to write and be a stay at home daddy?

Writing fluff for future posts sounds like a good idea right now 😉
