I like it,but the image quality on this upload is horrible. You could use bigger letter for your title also.

Is it just the lettering? The rest was done with filters, which can be removed. At least the background. We couldn’t find anything that would make it look like the book and the wings were attached.

Well, the outlines are a bit shabby, not straight and even, but again, I dont know if it is because of resolution on here, it often does a terrible job on the stuff we upload, unless the stuff is enormous in size
The font should defo be bigger, I am on husbands PC which is old monitor and I could hardly see it from a larger distance, while at the same time your name was more visible.

I agree with the font. Just so I know what to look at, which outlines? The edges of the wings were made to look uneven and burnt, so I’m not sure if that’s what you’re talking about. The journal outline does look a little off.

Nah, not those two,those look fine, especially on the wings, I mean the card itself,If you zoom in, the outline breaks at a few places.

I think I’m still confused. I’m really sorry. This is why I write and don’t try graphic stuff. Do you mean the outer outline of the entire cover? Like it was roughly cut from something or notched all over?

No. Look at to the card,the brown thing (hope so, Im partially colorblind).Left side has sharp edges, right side has round edges; when you zoom in,the lines arent straight,they go like thiis: ———-^——–^

Oh! That’s a real journal that was scanned and then an effect was put on the outline. I see the notches, which was probably caused the effect. I’m looking at the journal now and can see tiny indents if I hold it up to my face.

You can just pick the same color and recreate the shape, even the faded lettering on it, in about 3 minutes (would take me longer in GIMP, that darn thing is so confusing when you use Photoshop for years!)
I can see now with my mind the outline of it as a journal,cause you told me,on first look, it looked like a card with different outline on each side 😀

I’m going to see what happens when we remove that glowing outline. That might make it more noticeable or even be causing it. We’ll play around with it and see what happens.

At least for tonight and maybe a bit tomorrow. I’m aiming to debut the book next Sunday because I don’t want it coming too close to the next novel.

Then again, it could also be the background filter that the cover artist is thinking of removing.

I am by no means an expert in cover design, even though I’ve done a few right now; from a buyer perspective I’d ask something more neat, at least on the card shape.
I do really like the concept and the idea, just the execution needs a wee work, on the shapes and the title.
As always, you can always ask help from me, I dont know why, but I get the idea you guys are all scared of me or something, am I too harsh? 🙂

More that my wife came up with the concept on this pretty quickly and wanted to try. The thing is that she’s still learning the software, which is something called GIMP. Also, I kind of didn’t have any money to spend on cover art, so I didn’t really want to ask anyone that I couldn’t pay. 😦

I use Photoshop,but maybe GIMP is the same:
when trying to make geometric shape, hold SHIFT while pulling the mouse – so you don’t get the round vs straight edges problem 🙂

The book seems very 2 dimensional. Can’t see the title, it’s fuzzy. Love the idea of a book with wings though. Can you get a better book image from a photo site? Maybe an open book pic would work better.

It’s actually the picture of a book that we own. It looks clearer in the updated version going up with my goal post tomorrow. It might have caused been the original filter that was tossed for the new version. I’ll be out for most of the day, so I hope it fixed the problems.
We were wondering about the open book idea. Maybe we’ll give it a try if tomorrow’s doesn’t fix the issues. There’s nothing written in the book, so I don’t know if that will be a factor.

Thanks. Tomorrow is family outing day. Hoping to return to a few positive comments on the book. It says ‘Journal’ on the cover, which is the style of half the story. Anyway, I need to pass out and rest before tomorrow’s adventure.
