Excerpts and Reveals!

So, I wanted to do something special for the first week in May . . . Actually, I’m lazy and lost my list of post themes at some point.  I think I was going to do something about languages, but that isn’t as interesting as it was before.  I’ll save it for later since I have a better idea.

I want to post excerpts from my first 5 books.  I’d go for 6, but that reaches a point where I can’t avoid certain spoilers.  Then again, there is a great Fizzle scene in there that doesn’t spoil anything.  It really depends on how this post goes.

Now, I don’t know what excerpts to take.  I’m leaning toward the ‘Luke/Sari bar fight’ from Tri-Rune, but that’s all I’ve got.  Which means I’d greatly appreciate it if people who have read the book suggest a scene.  I can’t take everyone’s suggestion since it’s 1 scene per book.

This also brings up the following question:

When can I start mentioning a few characters on this blog?

I can get away with the Krypters, but the 5th Champion and the Main Baddie have never been named or introduced here.  As the series progresses, I find it harder to talk about things without bringing them in.  ‘Bob’ I’ve managed to avoid for the most part, but he’ll be the big reveal as Book 5 approaches.  So, do I allow excerpts and revelations of the other two who are very important to the series?  If yes then I can grab a scene for each one during this event in May.  If no then how long do I wait until I can mention these two by name without getting a flood of ‘SPOILERS!’ in my email?

Anyway, anyone excerpt suggestions and opinions on these two guys would be greatly appreciated.  Thanks and enjoy your weekend.  With any luck, I’ll be able to spend more time on here come Tuesday . . . or I’ll start in on the 8th book.

About Charles Yallowitz

Charles E. Yallowitz was born, raised, and educated in New York. Then he spent a few years in Florida, realized his fear of alligators, and moved back to the Empire State. When he isn't working hard on his epic fantasy stories, Charles can be found cooking or going on whatever adventure his son has planned for the day. 'Legends of Windemere' is his first series, but it certainly won't be his last.

Wow…your mind really doesn’t stay still much! lol A busy mind is the sign of brilliance so my last sentence was meant as a compliment 🙂 I don’t see why you can’t introduce new characters ahead of time. It gives the reader something to look forward to. Excerpts don’t have to be *Spoilers,* do they? You give us a piece of the story that doesn’t reveal too much. I think you should post what you feel led to post. Although, I know this often causes backlash for you. I don’t understand why people give you such a hard time!!

    • Part of the issue is that last time I did something like this, I got a bunch of private backlash. This is why I’m opening it up to the audience to suggest scenes. If nobody bites then I’ll have to pick and choose on my own. I might delay the reveals until June if I don’t hear anything.

  2. I would like to meet future characters – I reckon they’re more teasers than spoilers. It’s a shame that people think it’s ok to be critical about anything you decide to do – you own all you produce. 🙂

  3. It’s tricky, isn’t it? Hmm … I guess it kind of depends on who the majority of your blog readers are. If you think most of them are up to date on the current book, then you can probably get away with minor spoilers. If you’re trying to attract new readers to the series, then spoilers are probably a bad idea. That being said, teasers are okay, as long as you don’t give away crucial details about the plot or character!

    • I get the sense that most readers aren’t up-to-date on the books. Many have even admitted to not having started, which makes things rough for a series. So far, nobody has given any suggestions, so I might have to take a chance.
