Two New Social Media Promo Sites

This is going to be quick.  Two sites have been suggested to me for some simple promotions.  I’m testing both out to see how it goes.

The first is Reddit, which allows you to post a link to the site.  Being new, I’ve had to wait for about 10-15 minutes between posts.  That’s a downside, but it’s supposed to get easier the more attention I get.  At least that’s what the message says.  You may notice that there is a Reddit button at the bottom of some posts.  You can click on this and send the post to your Reddit account.  I need to remember to do this.  So far, I’ve posted some book review links to this site and we’ll see what happens.  Might take a while to get more on there and it could very well go the way of Pinterest where I barely pay attention to it after setting myself up.

The second is Stumbleupon, which has a button too.  This is a lot easier to set up and moves a lot quicker with getting stuff on there.  I’ve already posted 2 book reviews and a few of my poem posts on there.  No delay and you can dive right in.  It’s another site that you can set up and work from other sites without a problem.  It’s very picture oriented from what I can see.

At this time, I’m still waiting for Reddit to let me post again, so I’ll go back to it in an hour.  I guess you can use this one when you have time and patience.  Simple set up, but long waiting time.  Be nice if you could connect either of these to your blog for automatic posting like Twitter, Facebook, Tumblr, and LinkedIn.  I can see Stumbleupon being great for this, but they run a NSFW rating system.  I guess that explains only have a button.

Add-on:  I’m going wild putting stuff on Stumbleupon.  It’s really quick to get set up and running.  Highly recommended even if it doesn’t bring in a ton of sales.  At least it’s exposure on another medium.

2nd Add-on:  There is a limit on Stumbleupon.  14 posts a day apparently.  Oops.

About Charles Yallowitz

Charles E. Yallowitz was born, raised, and educated in New York. Then he spent a few years in Florida, realized his fear of alligators, and moved back to the Empire State. When he isn't working hard on his epic fantasy stories, Charles can be found cooking or going on whatever adventure his son has planned for the day. 'Legends of Windemere' is his first series, but it certainly won't be his last.

    • I don’t think I’m going to use Reddit much. It’s a pain to get stuff up there in general. How is a new person supposed to make a large portfolio when it keeps telling me to stop posting? I’m not sure if Stumble Upon is good for non-picture links or not.

I share all my poetry on Stumbleupon, but it doesn’t result in many hits… one or two per post… I used reddit for a while to try to get peer review on my poetry but that only resulted in personal attacks that had nothing to do with the writing So I gave up Reddit…

      • I think I’m going to let Reddit fall by the wayside or only post book reviews/interviews on it.

Stumbleupon seems to take a long time to load each new screen. I’ve just gotten a new computer which has four processors in it and I can’t figure out why it should take so long.>KB

Have fun with Reddit. Stumbleupon, I’m still trying to figure that one out. It’s a great site, though.

Isn’t Reddit a bit iffy about self-promotion? This is what I’ve heard, I don’t actually use it myself.

  8. I found Reddit very sniffy if I post more than once per week, no matter which category I try to post in.
