I scrolled too far down the Prodigy of Rainbow Tower page and thought I was looking at the book’s rankings. It was strange because it wasn’t fantasy and I was in the the 30’s about an hour ago. I found this:
#55 in Kindle eBooks > Literature & Fiction > Action & Adventure
#74 in Books > Literature & Fiction > Genre Fiction > Action & Adventure
Apparently, Amazon ranks authors in genres and it’s in Beta. I’m listed among real bestselling authors. For example, I’m right behind James Patterson on that first list and I’m a few behind Michael Crichton on the second list. Interesting new toy, but I’m not going to worry too much about it.

I don’t know how you find and keep up with all that stuff. My page only shows me one thing and that is Amazon Best Sellers Rank: #633,949 Paid in Kindle Store…pretty bad huh? i don’t know how you find what you rank in categories and I’ve looked everywhere.

you’re not the only one. I’ve seen it slip down and down and down yet go up to half that number, then down again. Obviously Charles has the secrets.

My numbers are like yo-yos. They full 3 spaces after 20 sales and leap up 10 after 1 sale. It makes no sense, so I’m just holding on for the ride.

The categories only include the Top 100. So, an author is a non-entity in genre until they break that list. For the author thing, I simply stumbled onto it, but it looks like it’s another 100 list.

geez….I am a non-entity. I am finished with my proofing and am about to load my MS and push some buttons. Then I am going to douse myself with gasoline and run naked through the streets ablaze and see if I get noticed.

Might be smarter to do that to someone else and have a banner with your book’s name trailing behind them.

I do. It’s the only thing that makes sense of a $39.99 eBook collection that people have pointed out lacks page numbers and is horribly put together.

Go to your book on Amazon and scroll down to where you see your picture and bio.

Sounds cool to be in that company! I find the ranking stuff confusing too – my rank seems to jump up and down in amazingingly large numbers in either direction with awesome regularity – which I presume is just the ebb and flow of other books in my genre, but it does make me wonder that one or two sales make such a difference (as that is about all my sales chang from day to day, if that, LOL). I’m hoping though, that to get to the level you have means really healthy sales and you are close to – or have even now reached – your goal of being a writer who can make a real income from it and do this full time going forward without the pressures you’ve been under before? 🙂

Mine hopes around too. I equate it to a rollercoaster. Though, I just got on the Fantasy Author list and I’m sitting ahead of Anne Rice.

Wow, that’s pretty cool company to be in. You need to do a print screen of that. Congrats 🙂

I’ve been trying to do print screens, but they’re not working. I can see them when I put them in the post and then they vanish after I publish it.

Have you tried pasting the print screen into Paint and then saving it as a jpeg? That should work.

I can try that. Right now I’m actually just wanting to go back to fun posts. Though the one last night fell rather flat.
