WordPress Issues: Comment Erasing

Has anyone else written a response, clicked reply, and the response simply vanishes instead of being sent?  This has been happening to me all week and I’ve lost some pretty insightful responses.  I’m starting to get annoyed.

About Charles Yallowitz

Charles E. Yallowitz was born, raised, and educated in New York. Then he spent a few years in Florida, realized his fear of alligators, and moved back to the Empire State. When he isn't working hard on his epic fantasy stories, Charles can be found cooking or going on whatever adventure his son has planned for the day. 'Legends of Windemere' is his first series, but it certainly won't be his last.

If it’s a reply on someone else’s blog there’s a chance they might just have not approved it or deleted it themselves, although I’d imagine the chances of that are very slim.

    • It’s on both. Basically, I write it and hit reply. The comment vanishes from the screen. I don’t even get a sending symbol when I hit reply. The comment is erased and was never sent.

  2. Absolutely. This has happened a couple of times – hopefully this comment will not disappear into the ether. And you are right, it is always those comments that you have worked hardest on that vanish. Be annoyed, but know that you are not alone.

Yes! This has happened to me quite a few times lately! It’s very annoying, especially if the comment was fairly long. I recently started typing longer comments in Word first and then copy/paste my reply. This way it’s still preserved somewhere if WP decides to launch my comment into the abyss.

    • I was thinking of that, but I’m usually trying to get through the comments (respectfully of course) to get back to my book. I was starting to do a grab all with the mouse and copy as a safety measure since it’s so random.

  4. Hasn’t happened to me yet, but I’ve heard it happens to others. So what I do before I post is select all text/copy/post. If by chance it gets erased then I have it saved and I try again. WordPress gives me an error if it’s a duplicate comment, so it automatically deletes one for me if I happen to post a comment twice.

Another blogger writes her comments on like wordpad or something on her comp, then copies and pastes it into a comment because WP has erased hers before, and she usually leaves long insightful ones.

  5. Yep, this has happened to me a couple of times. Plus the thing I told you about where my posts aren’t appearing in a lot of people’s readers recently, which has meant that the view numbers on my blog have gone down. There’s obviously a few glitches on WP… but they’re all very annoying.

    • Yeah. The reader thing gets really annoying at times. I’ve stopped paying attention to the view amount because I never know if that’s happening to me. I think they did maintenance this past weekend, so maybe that caused the current glitch.

  7. Just a couple of times. Once I had a whole post disappear. Luckily I had it on the email that was sent to me, so I recopied and posted again. It’s really a wonder that things run as smoothly as they do.

Yes, darn it all…it sometimes disappears as I’m writing as it did not more than half an hour ago, replying to you in fact! A blog disappeared the other day, but fortunately the autosave did it’s thing (besides…I usually do a first draft with my wordprocessing program)…sun spots by chance???

  9. Oh oh oh! Does your comment box have a little Reply, and then an underscore (_) beside it? Because if you accidentally hit the underscore instead of Reply, it just minimizes the comment, it doesn’t delete it. Try it and see!

I had WordPress eat a couple of mine, and then for a few posts before I realized the issue resolved, people got double comments from me.

Happens frequently, especially when i try to respons from the notification icon in the corner of the screen or the iphone. WordPress weirdness indeed.

  12. That happens to me quite a bit. If it’s an lengthy or “important” comment, I just Control C that sucker before I hit reply. If it disappears into the nothingness or doesn’t upload, all I have to do is paste it back into the reply box. 🙂

I’ve had that happen too! Plus, everyone’s pictures went wonky on me earlier. Your picture was with name of a female blogger who had commented on my post. And her pic was with someone else’s name…craziness!!

  14. Very frustrating indeed! I have gotten into the habit of copying my text before clicking ‘response’, just in case.

  17. I had it happen once and I thought it was something that I did, but now it sounds like that was not the case.

Maybe you are stuck in the plot of a super spy movie. Ha-Ha. Don’t get too frustrated. It’s either a glitch or a conspiracy. But, the more I write the more I find myself under attack from strange obstacles as though the universe was punishing anyone with an interesting idea. Just got to laugh at the devil, and push on. 🙂
