Wiki-Me?

I have until my family realizes I’m no longer doing the laundry to write this.  I’ve done some pretty stupid stunts in my past.  Walking home with a friend in a torrential downpour while carrying band instruments instead of waiting for our ride.  (Sorry, Kevin)  Goofing off on stage risers until a friend got knocked off the stage.  (Sorry, Mark)  One armed hug that turned into an accidental clothesline.  (Sorry, Tracy/wife)  Nearly pimping my friend out to a woman in the elevator who wanted him and our pizza.  (Possibly sorry, Greg)  The list is rather extensive, but I’m going to add to it.

I’m wondering how to get a Wikipedia page.  I assume that if I make one for myself and for my book that it will be wiped out.  Also, I have no idea what I’m doing.  I have two friends who play on Wikipedia, but they might not be any help. Neither have read the book, one only bothers with engineering/science/military articles and the other is more of a . . . well, he messes with pages when he’s bored.  There’s a story with that, but I don’t know if I’m allowed to tell it.

This came to my mind when I realized that my birthday is April 9th and there might be a day that I’m listed on the Wikipedia April 9th page under famous births or whatever they call it.  Part of me wants to slip in there to make it this year, but that’s really the impish, immature part of me.  Still, I do wonder how one goes about getting into the archives of the wiki-world.  Do you wait for fans to do it or do you have to do it yourself?  I’m assuming the former only because the latter sounds pathetic.

To this end, I’m going to e-mail Wikipedia and ask them about this.  It’s something stupid and probably born from a level of psychotic boredom, but there’s nothing to lose.  Unless I can get a friend to make a Legends of Windemere page.  The more I write this and think about this, the more stupid it sounds actually.

About Charles Yallowitz

Charles E. Yallowitz was born, raised, and educated in New York. Then he spent a few years in Florida, realized his fear of alligators, and moved back to the Empire State. When he isn't working hard on his epic fantasy stories, Charles can be found cooking or going on whatever adventure his son has planned for the day. 'Legends of Windemere' is his first series, but it certainly won't be his last.

Unsolicited suggestion prompted by your post: A wiki for your series instead?

A person cannot write or modify their own wiki page, I believe. Also a person has to have a certain level of… Renown? Or it will probably be deleted. Things might have changed though since I heard this on podcast. It was awhile ago.

    • That’s what I thought. Guess it’s another goal for me to work toward. One of these days my birthday will be listed on that April 9th page along with Hugh Hefner and Jenna Jameson. There’s others, but I find that combo to be the funniest.
