Contest Reminder

I probably should have posted more about this, but I’m going to make a reminder here:

The book review-based contests for March have 10 days left before they’re done.  They are the following:

Amazon Review

  1. Post a review of Beginning of a Hero on Amazon.  There are 7 there right now.
  2. At the end of March, I will choose 3 random reviewers to win a $25/$15/$10 Visa Giftcard.

Goodreads Review

  1. Post a review of Beginning of a Hero on Goodreads.  There is 1 there now.
  2. At the end of March, I will choose 4 random reviewers to win a preview copy of Prodigy of Rainbow Tower in .pdf form.

It’s looking like these contests didn’t really help me too much, so I will probably not do them again in April or I will change the prizes to be free copies of the next book of the series.  I should have mentioned it more often, but I was so busy pushing the actual book that I didn’t always remember.  I also assumed that more people who bought the book would also leave a review.

About Charles Yallowitz

Charles E. Yallowitz was born, raised, and educated in New York. Then he spent a few years in Florida, realized his fear of alligators, and moved back to the Empire State. When he isn't working hard on his epic fantasy stories, Charles can be found cooking or going on whatever adventure his son has planned for the day. 'Legends of Windemere' is his first series, but it certainly won't be his last.

First of all, I really think your contests were a great idea (I didn’t have much luck when I tried to do something similar, though)
And secondly, I know you said you aren’t going to be doing awards anymore, but I just wanted to be able to repay you for all the kindness you’ve shown me, so I’ve nominated you for the Next Big Thing award. Thank you again for all your help! http://whenibecameanauthor.wordpress.com/2013/03/21/the-next-big-thing-award/

I thought I had read all of your posts. I must have missed the ones regarding the contests. Sounds like a great idea, maybe give it a few tries until it clicks?

In case you missed our posts regarding reviews, Sahm(The Arkside Of Thought) and I do book reviews. Check out the page “Papizilla Book Reviews” for all the info you need.

I admit that I got lazy with the posts and was relying on the contest page. I also figured around the 500 sale mark that I’d get a few more reviews to make the contest exciting. The only problem I have with the Amazon contest is that the prize is $50 worth of giftcards, which I can’t afford on a monthly basis with such a small turnout. It might be smarter for me to wait until my second, higher priced book is out, so I get a better cash flow. I haven’t cleared my advertising costs yet, so I should start being carefully.

I’ll take a look at the book review section. Thanks.

*sigh* I just noticed the contest page. Yeah, the costs for these things are prohibitive, we are finding that out for the poetry contests on the page. I don’t understand why people don’t give more reviews.

From what other people have mentioned, people tend to only review if they really hate or really love a book. Most people are more inclined to read and move on to the next one. I think if I continue the contests, it will always be for free copies of the next book of the series. That being said, I might still let April be contest free because I have so much stuff I need to handle during that month.
