Why We Can’t See Our Tpyos

I see my typos. It’s called reading over your work with a critical eye & paying attention.

I do that too. Things still slip by though. Can’t focus on spelling, grammar, plot consistency, word flow, and everything else at the same time. Something is bound to go unnoticed even with professional editors.

I usually let my work sit before posting, if possible. & I read it out loud. Not only does that help find typos but it helps in finding the flow.

I’ve never been able to read my books out loud and catch things. Part of it is because I can’t work in total silence. I need music or an old tv show on for background.

I usually have classical music on when I’m working or the music that matches the period of which I’m writing.

No I didn’t, our brains tell us what we expect to see ‘Typos’ – of course readers’ brains are more alert.

True. Our brains know what should be there and autocorrect. Reader brains don’t do that.
