Twitter and Angry Birds (Yahoo Image Search)
So, I’m trying something new with Twitter. My old plan was that I post every 3-6 hours and do retweets in-between. A very active plan that required me stopping what I was doing to make sure I put stuff between the tweets. Kind of rough to think of so many fun tweets too. Never sure if that was helpful or not though. It allowed people to retweet me more than once a day, but I don’t know if it ever turned into sales. A lot of work for not much payoff? Hard to continue especially at this time of year and things kept crumbling in my hands.
The new plan is the following:
- Schedule a tweet for 12 AM. Stays at top while I’m asleep as long as Hootsuite does what it’s supposed to.
- Pin the tweet when I wake up. Locked in for the day.
- Retweet throughout the day with no feeling of having to rush before a new tweet turns up.
- Repeat.
This is a lot easier to maintain, but I’m not sure if this helps me get exposure. The books are limping like they’ve done all year. Not to mention we’re talking about a long series, which has a curse of having fewer sales for every book. Charms of the Feykin hasn’t even hit 100 yet, which has me worried. We all know the reasons behind my focus on this, so I won’t go into that rant.
Overall, this month is going to be low key. Easier tweet pattern, nothing much beyond ‘Raven’s Game’ on the blog, and me just trying to make some progress on the other projects. God help me, I don’t even know how to fit the editing of Chasing Bedlam into this. Hard to get motivated since the first book is still dead in the water. I loved writing it, but seems I’m one of the few. Be a shame to retire that series already, but I might just make it a cheap one. I’m getting off topic. So much going on that I can’t get a handle on these days. Let’s end on a happy note:

Great Twitter plan, Charles. Sorry about the sales on the series. Have you ever thought about doing a couple of stand alone books. I read something last week about readers not liking series at the moment. Just something to think about. 🙂

I considered it, but that means walking away from the series and taking the risk of it never getting finished. I don’t really have anything set up for stand alone books either, which is a problem. Nothing beyond a few notes, so it would take months to get anywhere. Given that I’m getting at least one weekly reminder that I have to ‘make a decision’ by the end of the year, I can’t really attempt that path.

Forgot that I wouldn’t have Jason as a cover artist on those too. We’re only doing Legends of Windemere together, so I’d have to hunt down someone for that and deal with the ‘not Jason’ effect. Put myself in a pretty rough spot until the series is done.

Definitely helps in that regard. Means all these last minute issues don’t cause much schedule damage.

Thanks. They’re fairly easy. Just post it and pin it then switch it from time to time. Honestly, it sounds more daunting than it really is.

It makes it easier for people to retweet your tweets. This way if you retweet someone, they don’t have to scroll through all of your stuff to find something. Right at the top and ‘boom’ the job is done.

It’s certainly easier. Since I don’t know how big an effect Twitter has on my sales in general, I can’t be sure of what’s going on now.
