It was fun. Kind of preferred the first one since this one was a tad cluttered. Some characters deserved more story time than others. One subplot felt rather stretched, but it also seemed like there were parts where editing was poor. Probably have to pick up the Director’s Cut when it comes out on DVD. Thumbs up for highlighting a character who typically gets ignored by fans and for doing a good job with a character’s powers that are so random in the comics.
Final Opinion: To me, Ultron is the most charismatic and interesting villain out of all the Marvel movies.

I may or may not go see this movie next weekend. It looks like it’ll be a good one. Glad you seemed to enjoy it!

I preferred Loki as a villain to Ultron, but I have to say I still really enjoyed Ultron. I’m with you — the movie wasn’t perhaps the best edited, but it was really fun, and isn’t that what we want from an Avengers movie? 😀

I like Loki, but he kind of had a little too much whimpering, egotistical, ‘I hate my father’ for me. The thing I liked about Ultron is that he had an odd ‘niceness’ to how he spoke and there wasn’t any sign that he thought he was wrong. I couldn’t even really see the hate that people were talking about. He was a villain who thought he was a hero without question. Very different from the previous ones.
I did have fun, but the author in me got driven a little nuts by some storylines that were a tad choppy. Though one storyline that I won’t mention made up for that.

Nice review. As an oldster I’m going to pass. The trailer had my BP in the danger zone.

You see it in IMAX?

Nah. Basic stuff and then had money left for Red Robin burgers.

I have not seen this as yet. I’ll probably, as with pretty much all movies, wait to see it until I can sit comfortably at home, with no rude comments or overstuffed rows of seats. Nor having to smell that disgusting, overbearing butter substitute they use, let alone the cost of simple things like sodas or hot dogs. Since it’s against the rules to bring in your own, I know everyone (*ahem*) buys the stuff in the theater.
One more thing; the basic cost of non-matinee showings is ridiculous.
Thanks for your review, Charles!

This was a matinee. The cost of the other showings is really over the top. It’s rare that I don’t see a matinee. Hope this movie comes out on DVD or TV quicker than the last one.

Theater audiences aren’t ALL bad. We had a couple of young boys in front of us and their dad was telling them all the character history during the credits. They were all, “Wow, Dad knows everything!” Super cute.

Thanks. Though I still really hope there’s a Director’s Cut DVD at some point.

Happy to hear you enjoyed the movie, Charles. I liked it too but agree about editing. I found some scenes too long especially the fighting ones. I liked Ultron too – interesting guy errr, machine and loved James Spader’s voice! My hubbie didn’t like. Oh well, you can’t please everyone, but he enjoyed his popcorn.

It seems to be a ‘love it or hate it’ movie. A big part of that might be the hype surrounding it. People built up some massive expectations for it, but it really couldn’t have met them. Too many characters to keep it clean.

I agree with you that they had just a bit too much going on. It became a whirlwind and hard to follow. And, yes, there was a bit too much banter and things blowing up rather than logic or insight. But, I’m a character person and lose interest in big action sequences.
Small gripes aside, it’s a very good movie and people should see it on the big screen.

I’m wondering if a lot was cut. There were a few storylines that made it seem like something else had happened. Usually stuff involving Thor.

I LOVED the movie! I’ve already seen it twice 🙂 I totally agree about Hawkeye – his developments was one of my favourite parts. Also the humour…so much to say on the group dynamic and the unity. I could write an essay! Thanks for sharing your thoughts and for allowing me to ramble about Avengers. One more thing…how cool was Vision? (I have a slight obsession with Jarvis)! 😀

I did like Vision. Though I wish they did more with him.
