A few things here:
One is that I’m doing another poll for the character name because people threw a few more names into the ring after the fact. Some of them sound good, so I’m pitting them against yesterday’s winner. Seems only fair and I’m really hoping to start writing the first story in April or at least do a preliminary event list.
Speaking of April . . . I have no idea. This is in regards to a few people asking when the next book is coming out. I’ve said March/April, but always add a ‘hopefully’ in there because I still need to finish editing and get the cover art. Let’s be honest here. If you’ve been following me long enough to see a book debut then you know I’m cursed with delays and avoid definite release dates until I have most of what I need. This makes hyping a big problem. So if anybody has a tip on how to hype a book without a release date then I’m all ears.
So I’ll get the next Legends of Windemere book out as soon as I can and give a week of Hype. I might try doing more after the release though. This brings me to a final question:
When would be the best time to do a Twubs chat?
This is a live chat on Twitter that allows people to interact with me. I did it once as all of my characters, which got a person or two. Then I tried again as myself and got a few more. I’m thinking of doing a few of these to cover as many time zones/schedules as I can, but I’m hoping to get an idea of best times. Not sure of any other method to do interaction like this beyond a webcam one, but that involves my face being seen.

Nothing wrong with the face, Charles… though webcams are not he most flatterng option 🙂

That’s the other thing. I guess I’m trying to find a way to do an ‘interview’ with people besides waiting for blog responses.

Yep, that’s difficult… I don’t think I have any new ideas on that one..

Guess we’ll see what happens. Hoping people are reading beyond the poll too. 🙂

I would imagine they are… you sort of have to, don’t you?

Not really. People can stop at the poll if they want. Guess we’ll see.

I meant hope 😉

Were the poll left up to me… wait, I just left my choice, and it said the name I chose had 100% of one votes. I guess it may be up to me, after all. (smile, wink, nudge)

Looks like Brooks took the lead. I think a hard thing with me and Simms is that I keep thinking of Phil Simms.

I guess I stand (rather, sit) corrected. I’m still the only one voting for Simms, so I’ll just let it go. Yes, Brooks is the reader’s choice. Oh, well, life goes on!

Yeah. Guess we have Ichabod Brooks now. I’ll see what beta readers think when that time comes. If the character doesn’t come off as an Ichabod Brooks then we’ll see what happens. Honestly, nothing seems to have the kick of Ichabod Jones, but maybe I just need time.

You have a new author photo! That’s cool!
The name I chose is still the top choice. Yay!

Yeah. I have to admit I’m torn between Brooks and Knight right now.

As far as the release, the best thing I’ve come up with for myself (having similar issues as you) is to completely finish the book and then set the release date out far enough to give yourself time for some hype. It’s a tough pill for ME to swallow because as soon as I have something ready, I want it out there. But it seems to be the safest way to get the excitement up and give you time to get some pre-sales, if you do that.

I’ve tried that, but things always seem to happen for some reason. I usually don’t have the cover art to do the pre-sales too.
