About Charles Yallowitz

Charles E. Yallowitz was born, raised, and educated in New York. Then he spent a few years in Florida, realized his fear of alligators, and moved back to the Empire State. When he isn't working hard on his epic fantasy stories, Charles can be found cooking or going on whatever adventure his son has planned for the day. 'Legends of Windemere' is his first series, but it certainly won't be his last.

  1. Maybe put the URL for Amazon and Barnes and Noble. Otherwise looks great. – John

So, I did notice one thing. Your middle initial runs into your first name and people might start calling you Charlese… I agree with John, URL would be good too.

I agree, it looks like your name is Charlse. Yallowitz ๐Ÿ˜›

Have you tried it with the same colour scheme, putting it green writing on black background? The blue just seems a bit too different for my taste.

RE: The link – you could print it on the back, rotated 90 degrees? It should fit then and wouldn’t clutter up the face of it.

Oh, the image is off centre too!

      • Mentioned that one to her. We’re working strictly with Microsoft Word here, so it’s rather basic. Hopefully, we can fix it. Though, from the cursing and shouting I’m hearing from the basement, I’m not sure.

    • I’m not sure I want to play with word coloring, but I’ll run it by my wife. I’m going with a small QRcode, but it might be best to put that on the back. The full link is just too huge no matter what we do.

I wouldn’t fret about it too much to be honest. If you search your name on Amazon it’s the first hit. Most people would prefer to just do that then type out an awkward link, so it’s not a huge deal whatever you go with! ๐Ÿ™‚

      • True. The QRcode would be useful for any friends of the bookmark holder to use. Also, if it gets dropped on the ground and people random want to see where it leads.

      • Thanks. Word is definitely proving to be a pain. Add in that the desktop works off of Microsoft Vista and the computer will be lucky to survive this project.

Ooo, I love it! It is perfect, very mysterious and intriguing, the trees in the background are awesome and the color is perfect. (Hey, are you guys for hire?) ๐Ÿ™‚

So I’ve got one vote for a different background, and a couple for the current background. As for the code, I’m going to put it on the back because it looks tacky on the front, unless I make the bookmark white, which I’m not loving, personally.

  7. I don’t have the patience to read other people’s comments, so I’ll just tell you what I think, shall I? First of all, I like the old-fashioned box around your name – very cool. Definitely keep that. As for your name, it reads CHARLESE – I’d suggest cutting out the E entirely. The blurry forest background is cool, but I’d suggest sticking with the green/tan/brown colour scheme you have going on your cover. So … tan or green background, I’d suggest ๐Ÿ™‚ Um … I like the cover placement, very eye-catching, but it looks a little off-center to me. And if the URL for Amazon/Barnes & Noble doesn’t fit, what about putting your personal website URL? Or … what else could you put on the bookmark … maybe put your elevator pitch (the 1 sentence description of the book that hooks readers in), because I think you could fill up that blank space at the bottom. Okay! That concludes my analysis ๐Ÿ™‚ Pick out the useful advice as you see fit — looking forward to seeing the final version!

    • Thanks for the feedback. We changed the font and spacing for my name to fix that problem. We’re going to put a QRcode on the back of the bookmarks, so maybe put the website on there too. The off-center is a problem because we’re using MS Word and it’s basically saying that wherever the cover lands is where it stays. So, that’s the battle for the night, but we’re going to try it on PowerPoint once the toddler is asleep.
With the elevator pitch and the space at the bottom, I’m just concerned about making the bookmark seem cluttered. My worry is that there will be too much on there and people will get turned off by that.

Do you do your covers as well, or is this just a mockup of the cover into a bookmark format? You then print these on cardstock, I take it?

      • My wife’s cousin (Jason Pedersen) is a professional artist in Arizona. He’s doing my cover art between tattoo design jobs. We’re using the cover of the published book for this and then printing it on, apparently, photo paper. This is our first time doing this, so it’s all experimental.

    • Thanks. My wife (the self-proclaimed graphic designer because she couldn’t get into the major back in college) fixed up my name. The only issue that’s sticking around is the off-center cover and maybe using a better background. There’s a green one that she wants to attempt when she can get back to the project tonight. It’s the last bit of swag we need to create before the convention in 2 weeks.
