Last Sunday’s funny animals picture went over really well. I realized that I randomly put it on the same day that my son and I went to the Bronx Zoo. That was a lot of fun and we got some really good pictures. Sadly, the tigers didn’t want to come out and you can’t hang around certain areas like you used to. We are pretty quickly forced out of the viewing area by the crowd. Anyway, here are some good ones:

Great photos, Charles – little kids getting excited seeing the animals, I can understand, but bigger kids and ‘adults’ taunting the animals makes me angry 😡

It’s frustrating. A few people were complaining because the guy was ruining our shots. I’m wondering if that was what he was doing because he’d stop long enough for the leopard to stand still. Once we got our cameras up, he’d start again. Was really hoping the gibbon in the other enclosure, which has no glass, would throw something at the guy.

Beautiful photos, Charles. I have never seen a bleeding heart pigeon. I loved your caption on the dragon shot. It sounds like a few parents ought to be eaten. Thanks for the treat.

Thanks. It’s frustrating seeing kids and adults being horrible at the zoo. To be honest, I see adults being jerks more than kids. They bang on the glass or shout at the animals to get them to do things. There are signs and rules against that. Although, I’ve noticed most people who do that tend to be tourists.

Idiots too. I came to hate the tourists when we lived on the Gulf.

Bet you’re happy to be away from that circus.

So happy. It was having an effect on my happiness being surrounded with people who could care less about anything or so it seemed. I got into some pretty tough arguments with a few.

Yikes. Sorry to hear that, but it seems you’re in a better place.

So true. I do miss the beach and sound of the surf though

I love visiting the zoo. I haven’t been for a couple of years, and there is something new I would like to see. I feel sorry for the bear. He should be hibernating about now.

I read a few articles on bears in zoos. They don’t feel the urge to hibernate since food is plentiful. They get slower and sleep longer, but they stay active. The risk is gaining too much weight, which zoos can counter through careful feeding regimes.

That makes sense. Hibernation is all about conserving resources. In the southwest they barely hibernate at all.

Wow, those are great! And now I’m thinking of the animals you come up with based on made up words. I hope this trip was also inspiring for you as you consider other creatures to populate your fantasy world.

There might be something. I was more focused on staying warm and enjoying time with my son.
