And That’s a Week Wrap!

(I should just make this one my theme song.)

Hey, anybody hear that I released a new book?  It’s called War of Nytefall: Ravenous and it’s a really good read.  Just click on the cover:

Now, I feel like I’ve done some author stuff.

So, when was the last time I made one of these posts?  A week ago . . . Feels like an eternity since so much has happened.  I can even tell you about some of it.  Not all because of what it entails, but it was one of those weeks where every day had a new surprise either at work or at home.  Sometimes it was a ‘ugh’ surprise and other times it was a pleasant one.  In the end, I truly believe that I deserve pizza for dinner tonight.  Need to really pick up some wine one day.

School has seen a lot of changes as we learn more about our situation.  I’m used to things shifting from day to day, so that doesn’t stress me.  Helping out wherever I can without driving myself into the ground.  I’ve gathered 3 masks and I’m trying to build up more of a collection since it’s kind of fun to have choices.  So far, I have:

  • Phoenix and Dragon fighting over a sword
  • Marvin the Martian
  • Spaceballs the Face Mask
  • (on the way) Fairy Tail symbol
  • (on the way) Roaring dragon

I have to make my own fun at times since you never know what’s going to happen.  There have been schools in other districts with Covid cases.  Some have shut down for a few weeks while others have simply quarantined those exposed.  Really hoping my school and my son’s school don’t have to deal with any of this.  Time will tell and I’ll keep doing my job in any way that I can.  If I’m not focusing on that then I’m either writing or helping my son with his homework.  He’s gotten much better at his hybrid system, so things are settling down in this arena.

Unfortunately, I have had a bunch of hiccups.  Dealing with unpredictable people can really wear one down.  You never know what you’re going to get with them.  Will they be working with you, against you, or not do anything at all?  There’s no telling what will trigger a shift as well.  Eventually, you hit a point where every encounter with these people is met with apprehension.  That’s why I’m glad to get a little ‘me’ time this weekend, which will help me to reset.

Might get a little writing done too.  War of Nytefall: Eulogy hasn’t been touched for a while if you don’t count the two sections I snuck in this week among the chaos.  One of them ended up causing me to delete another section because I was halfway through when I realized that I was using the wrong characters.  Didn’t want to redo everything and the scene still worked, so I changed things around.  My hope is to finish 2-3 chapters this week since I can write at night.  The only other thing I’m working on is the preparation work for a future spin-off of The Ether Thief.  Get to work on it when I have lunch or a free period, which isn’t bad.  The spin-off is going to be short with only 6 short stories with 8-10 sections each.  Shows how one of the recurring characters got to the point where Sin meets him.  I might finish it by the end of September and then I can move on to the next challenge.  Have to stay productive somehow.

Let’s see . . . work . . . parenting . . . chaos . . . writing . . . I don’t know what else I could write about without boring everyone.  People tend to focus on one section here anyway, so I don’t think I have to make these very long unless something big happens.  Only other thing I did was finish watching an anime called ‘Black Butler’.  It’s about a boy who is a nobleman that investigates the underworld doings for Queen Victoria.  His butler is a demon that he made a deal with and they have adventures.  There’s a lot more nuance to it, but that’s the gist.  The butler looks entirely human, but is very powerful.  I think what drew me to it was the catchphrase: “I’m just one Hell of a Butler.’  It was short and I enjoyed it.  Got rather dark and creepy, but that isn’t too surprising.  Think I’ll start in on a longer series next like ‘D-Grayman’.

Well, that’s really it.  Feel free to comment, suggest future post ideas for the blog, or whatever you like.  I’m so drained that I might even take a nap.  In fact:

Goals of the week

  1. Take nap.
  2. Work hard.
  3. Sleep enough.
  4. Pizza tonight!
  5. Write.
  6. Enjoy the one night I have with my son.  (Dinner and cartoons, which I’ll happily take.)
  7. Start another anime.
  8. Maybe set up a puzzle post for a future Sunday.

About Charles Yallowitz

Charles E. Yallowitz was born, raised, and educated in New York. Then he spent a few years in Florida, realized his fear of alligators, and moved back to the Empire State. When he isn't working hard on his epic fantasy stories, Charles can be found cooking or going on whatever adventure his son has planned for the day. 'Legends of Windemere' is his first series, but it certainly won't be his last.

  2. Sounds like a slice of life. Some good, some not so much. I have mad respect that you’re still writing through it all. I’ll probably start back up in November or December.
