I was going to do a post asking for opinions on the Raven Series, but I think I need a day to get my own thoughts together. This one wasn’t as big as Legends of Windemere, stayed on my blog, and never had my full confidence. Yet, I really enjoyed writing Dawn Addison and experimenting in a genre that I wasn’t really comfortable with. It was an adventure for myself and I hope I hit a few marks instead of missing completely for the last 4 years. Not sure if I’ll ever make a published bundle for this series, but I can assure people that this is the end. Dawn’s story can’t go any further without feeling like I’m stretching the concept beyond its natural path. Anyway, time to say an official good-bye:
There were a lot less ‘funny goodbye’ pictures than I expected. Seems typing ‘goodbye raven’ was even less help. Well, Dawn did do what she did and maybe she doesn’t want anyone to dwell on her. I’ll be back tomorrow to get a real conversation going since I’m sure there’s at least one person still reading Raven’s Wrath.
Has it been four years? Wow! Time flies! It’s hard to say good-bye, isn’t it, to characters you’ve birthed.

I guess she’ll be rattling around in my subconscious. Not as vocal as she used to be. I’ve noticed the cast of ‘Legends of Windemere’ have stepped aside to let the ‘War of Nytefall’ characters to take up more of my attention. I still think of them, but it’s more like visiting an old friend who has settled into a relaxing life.

I don’t have a tough time saying goodbye these days. It’s probably because I haven’t lived with them through a lengthy series. It must have been tough with the full Windemere series.

Windemere was definitely a bigger challenge to say good-bye too than Raven. I still think of that one, but accepted that it had to be done. I will admit that there were tears and a sense of feeling lost.

Now I’m thinking of Joan Wilder in Romancing the Stone.

Loved that movie and the sequel. Don’t see those on tv that often though.

I enjoyed all the stories. For some reason, I liked this one the best. Addison and Dawn were very understandable as characters. Both had motivations that were clear so their actions were less random and more to the point. I loved it when Ian was dismissed so easily by Addison. Made his whole character a nod to Addison’s power. I have no doubt Dawn Addison is sitting in that home having a nice rest and planning her memoir. Thanks, again, Charles.

I agree with you, John. This was the best of the series.

I think this one appeals more because you get an idea of who or what Dawn is. The others didn’t delve into her as a person. I wonder if this would have worked or been the ‘best’ without the others being what they are. It was an interesting build up of all the things she had done as a monster and then she’s split into the hero and villain.

I think you are right. The series lead up to this super conclusion.

The fun thing about retiring a series as an author is that you have the power to bring the characters and settings back to life if you want to. David Morell killed John Rambo in his first book and then the movies resurrected him for two more books.

True. Although, I think there is something to be said for closure. Ending on a high note beats running a character into the ground. Keep thinking about various tv shows and movies that won’t take the hint.

Great point. Once they “Jump the Shark” it’s time to say goodbye. I’m watching House of Cards as we speak and they should have let the show die when Kevin Spacey was fired. The supporting characters are just that. They are not compelling.

I was wondering how that final season was going to go. Never got into the show, but heard a lot about it. I can see them wanting to try and end it for the sake of everyone else involved. Really sucks when you lose a job because of somebody else’s actions.
