A Week of Creeping Along

The week is done!  Long live the weekend!  Seriously, I want to hide in this weekend and avoid whatever is coming next week.  It’s a three day weekend for the kid and wife, so we’ll see what that does.  Progress didn’t really happen as much as I’d have liked, but you’ll see why in a bit.

Yom Kippur Fasting

Last Saturday, I fasted for the day and distracted myself with Castlevania: Lament of Innocence.  This wasn’t as successful as I had hoped because I wasn’t doing this on my own like previous years.  My son wanted to watch and bombarded me with questions.  He also jumped around during boss fights and kept coming close to hitting the controller wire.  It’s a PS2 for anyone wondering.  My wife was working on his Halloween costume too, which involved a needle and thread.  It was a crowded room for my fast, but I made it to the end.

The Laptop

For those who missed last weekend’s post . . . I see how it is.  Seriously though, I sent my laptop back to Dell for their final attempt to fix it.  Things were getting steadily worse and I’m hoping it comes back soon.  Full disclosure: I’m writing this on Thursday night and it was said to be sent back in time for Friday.  Checking the progress site tells me it will be back Wednesday, but has not been completed.  I’m guessing Tuesday at this point, but I hope to be wrong.  Anyway, I had to work off the desktop when it wasn’t being used, which really slowed me down.  Will this be the last time?  Better be or my scream of frustration shall be heard across the cosmos.

War of Nytefall

I had hoped to get through 4-5 chapters, but only wrote up 2 because things kept happening and I couldn’t work at night.  I’m getting into the characters and having fun with the vampire humor.  Mostly, they can be fairly violent and shrug off minor damage pretty easily.  They take physical damage with a lot less seriousness than mortals, which was unexpected.  My favorite part right now is seeing how the characters are building their own connections.  A blossoming romance that I didn’t see coming between two supporting cast and a ‘sibling’ connection between others.  I’m noticing a few characters are getting less time than others though, but it’s a first book.  Much like Nyder, Yola, and Vile in Legends of Windemere, some of these guys will be minor until a great moment to shine.

Legends of Windemere

Still preparing for the finale in December.  I have all, but the 3 interviews ready for the special blog posts.  Feel free to ask for one and work with me to come up with a topic if you haven’t already and want to.  Also, I made a post on Monday for the hype opener:

Question for Luke Callindor Needed

My plan is to do a post like this every Monday to get questions for the champions and kick off the hype for Warlord of the Forgotten Age with a weak of Q&A posts.  Each of the six main heroes will get a turn.

Bedlam

I’m strongly considering giving this series 2018 off.  People seem to like the concept, but never buy the books.  That means I never make my money back even if I only do the covers and then free marketing.  Also, I feel strange putting out a very gun-heavy and violent book at this point.  As much as I enjoy writing it and I strive to make the action parts over the top and borderline unrealistic, might be best to hold off.  When I do bring Cassidy and Lloyd back, I might do a 2-pack with Protecting Bedlam and Derailing Bedlam in the same eBook.  Right now, it’s feeling more like this is a guilty pleasure series for me.

Raven Series

As you may have noticed, the third installment of this horror series has begun.  Hope people check it out and enjoy.

Life

It’s going and busy to the point where I should probably be happy with what little progress I made.  My son got his second belt stripe in martial arts, which he’s excited about.  My wife has her birthday next week, so we’re seeing Bladerunner 2049 tomorrow morning and then a lunch if possible.  It’s nearly 3 hours long, so we’ll see what happens.  I’ve had a friend going through a hard time too, so I’ve made myself open to his chats and phone calls when he needs them.  That actually takes more priority than the other stuff.  That’s pretty much what life is giving me.

A funny story: Apparently, I show up so often to the library for reserved manga that at least one librarian recognizes me on site.  So, the books are there by the time I cross the lobby.  Oddly proud about that.

What are the goals?

  1. Write more of War of Nytefall.
  2. Put programs back on the laptop if it comes back.
  3. Read more D.Gray-Man manga.
  4. Maybe fiddle with another Sin outline.
  5. Wife’s birthday stuff.
  6. Be a good friend.
  7. Get a little more sleep.
  8. Figure out why mosquitoes flock to me and get it to stop.

About Charles Yallowitz

Charles E. Yallowitz was born, raised, and educated in New York. Then he spent a few years in Florida, realized his fear of alligators, and moved back to the Empire State. When he isn't working hard on his epic fantasy stories, Charles can be found cooking or going on whatever adventure his son has planned for the day. 'Legends of Windemere' is his first series, but it certainly won't be his last.

  1. I think giving a priority to a friend is the best way to play it forward. Here’s to a good week.

  2. I concur with John. It’s important to be a good friend and everything gets done eventually anyway.

  3. I agree with previous comments: being a good friend is the right thing to make the priority. Your friend will really appreciate you being there, and the other stuff will get done eventually.

You’ve got a lot going on! Hope you enjoyed Blade Runner. I keep hearing great things about it. Will probably see it at some point. I saw the first one many years ago.

How cool that your librarian has your books ready when you arrive.

Hoping you’ll get your laptop back soon.

    • It was a really good movie. Kept the atmosphere of the first one too. I recommend watching the first before you see the second just to get a world refresher. They recap stuff, but not in a lot of detail.

No word on the laptop. I’ve pretty much emotionally checked out of the whole thing. It’ll get back when it does and I’ll keep waiting for it to break again.
