Sin– He’s doing another character conversation?
Clyde– You can tell he’s freaking out since he started the champions’ final book. Even with it being published next December, his confidence is shaking.
Darwin Slepsnor– I wanna go next! This way I can help people.
Sin– Better you than me. Hate to be the guy who comes after the last series. Imagine if it bombs? Then there goes all of Windemere.
Mystery Hero– At least he can talk about you three. I’m connected to Legends of Windemere and count as spoilers. Means I might get written next year, but not published until long after the final book. 2018 if I’m lucky and this guy is still doing the author thing.
Clyde– He does have that problem hanging over his head. None of us get a turn if he quits like everyone wants him to. Anybody remember those 10 years of him trying to balance a real job, family, and writing?
Sin– That was a nightmare. He didn’t even have the kid or other people around him at the time. I can’t really complain because he always made time for me.
Darwin– Me too. I’m very relaxing and fun. Helping people and having fun is all I’m about.
Savior– At least you guys are on the schedule. His superhero stuff is still a mess, so I hope he focuses on that long enough to get an idea.
Sin– That doesn’t even factor the fairies, the bounty hunter, the fighters, the historical tales, and whatever else is in his head. You notice that he’s having trouble recalling his ideas lately?
Clyde– I think this year took a lot out of him. Probably why 2017 will be mostly editing, outlining the next series, and only writing two new books. Maybe 3 if he decides to keep Bedlam going.
Darwin– Awww, I like that one. Maybe I can go help them.
Mystery Hero– Don’t even think about it, Slepsnor. The fantasy characters aren’t allowed to go to the Shattered States without permission. We have no business being there.
Savior– I hear rumors that Super Earth might return. All of the superheroes may be leaving Windemere if that’s true. That probably delays us even further.
Clyde– Okay. We have to see who’s going next. Sin is being patient since his stories connect to so many others. He’d have to be taking breaks between his stuff anyway. Elysium is off-limits for a bit since that connects too much to Legends of Windemere and all the others have problems. That leaves me and Darwin.
Darwin– I should go because I’m a happy hero.
Clyde– I’m going next.
Sin– And why is that?
Clyde– Because I’m tired of being left on the shelf. Any questions?
Yes, this series is a tough act to follow. But it can be done! Looking forward to the next series!

Just have to do something different and hope people follow.

I think Clyde might be right. Good post, Charles.

Might be good to go dark for a few years. Vampires can be fun.

Yeah, I get it more than most. The muse visited me last night, and I have to get rid of the idea so I can focus.

Always odd to feel like an idea needs to get dumped. The human mind can only work on so much at a time. Wish I was a gnome.

I have a real problem with it. Some of the ideas are decent ones too. I have to dedicate myself or I never get anything done.

Does making notes ever help? Maybe give you a day or two to work on other projects?

It helps sometimes. I have a long list of short story ideas.

Think you’ll ever get to them all?

No. I have some I keep skipping over. They’re valid, but just haven’t clicked the right way yet. Someday, maybe they will so I leave them on the list. I want to try a couple of novellas too. Maybe 45K to 50K words. Probably can’t sell them for more than 99¢, but there could be some who like more than micros and shorts.

I’m noticed that with novellas. You can’t really price them too high without backlash.

Craig, Neil Geiman sometimes shares ideas that somehow don’t click with him but are otherwise valid, so that others can use them. Perhaps you can do something similar on your blog.

Interesting concept, and deserves some thought. Thanks for the idea.

You could also take a page from television and movies and reboot Legend of Windemere, start from the beginning and change everything, maybe write it from the evil point of view… with the evil winning of course.

It’s been suggested. I don’t know if I could do it though. Feels like I’d be clinging to the old idea and afraid to move on. That and reboots are rarely as good as the original. 😉

Oh I agree, I personally hate when something gets rebooted. Still it’s something to think about if nothing else works for you.

I think it’s more that I have so many choices. 15 years of plotting ideas causes a lot of build up in terms of near ready series. Clyde and Darwin only need their book-by-book outlines.
