Have your attention?
So, I’m working on future posts instead of writing. The tooth thing is making it hard to concentrate. Now, I’m looking at December and wondering what I can do to close out the year on Tuesdays. The teasers are getting more headache-y for Windemere and I’ll have The Spirit Well coming out around then. An idea popped up, but it’s one that typically fails. Figure I’ll get feedback first and make a decision.
I want to do 4 character interviews. Two problems have come about when I try to do this:
- Me doing the questions and answers inevitably gets a ‘spoiler’ complaint. That and I never know what people want to hear from these characters. I know everything, which makes me a horrible interviewer.
- Making it interactive even with topic suggestions results in disaster. Very few people comment and many will show up to make a statement instead of a question, which ruins the illusion. Great that you like the character, but they’re kind of ‘sitting there’ waiting for a question. It’s like meeting a celebrity and talking about how much you like them as if they aren’t standing right there.
Now, if people are interested in this then I’ll attempt it using these steps:
STEP !– Set up a poll for last week in October to see who gets interviewed. Top 4 win. Poll will be stickied for a week complete with a mention of the sticky so people know that new posts are below.
STEP @– Announce winners the following weekend.
STEP #– Post a new character every Thursday in November with a request for questions.
STEP $– Make the posts for the following month.
That’s the plan and it will depend a lot on if people want to see it happen. If I don’t have enough people wanting it then it stops. If not enough people vote in the poll then it stops. If I don’t get enough questions (would like a max of 4) then it stops. I’m a glutton for punishment here.
How about a conversation between the characters and the people who were their real life inspirations? 🙂

Depends on who is chosen in the poll. The other issue is that I’d need to get the players/inspirations on board for that. Nimby, Nyx, and Luke are the only ones I’d definitely be able to get for this. No idea where Sari and Timoran are either.

I’m sorry the tooth situation is so troublesome. 😦 I admire the fact that you keep working, regardless.
Sounds like a good plan though I can see the frustration of trying to avoid spoilers.

I’m only doing blog posts, but at least it’s progress. The tooth stuff ends tomorrow with a grand pulling. I’ll heal over the weekend (Zoo trip on Sunday!) and be back to the book next week.

Arrggghhh. If it’s any consolation, I’ve been there. Twice.

Just so frustrating. I think we may have pissed off the insurance company too. They went from 7-15 business days to 3 days with expediting and now 30 days because I’m low priority. Ridiculous.

If you need character interview questions, I could help. Also, what if it was a character from another author’s universe asking the questions? Maybe we could do a cross-promotion thing with one of my Princess of the Light characters. Email me and let’s chat. 😉

Kind of like what C.S. Boyack does with Lisa Burton? That would be interesting. Maybe find 4 authors who want to do it. Instead of a poll, each one can choose a Windemere character and do a back-and-forth.

Well, I don’t want C.S. to think we’re stealing with trademarked Lisa Burton Radio but something similar. Just something different and interactive.

Yeah. It is different and can help promote other books. Though I only need 4 to cover December, so I’m not sure what to do if I get an overflow unless I carry it into January. Might be tough since most people may want to get something in before Christmas.

True. The other thing you can do is to have 4 of your characters do a guest post, maybe like an expose on the Champions. Luke’s favorite weapons, that kind of thing.

Do you mean on another blog?

Whatever you decide. I like Mrs. Light’s character on character interview.

Excellent recommendation. I’ll take a nice Pinot Gris 🙂

I’ll see what happens. Another factor is how much time I have for a back/forth email thing. Losing writing and editing time left and right this month.

I read the comments, and the actual Lisa will volunteer for this if you like.

If I go that route then that would definitely be cool. My only worry is finding enough people that respond and making sure I have the time for a back/forth. Maybe I’ll make the suggestion Sunday and see how many people are interested. Won’t be around for that day, but it would be an interesting test.

Lisa works best with either an idea or some questions too. You’re brave to ask for input. I don’t get gobs of action that way.

Neither do I, which is why I’m unsure this will work. 🙂

Maybe it would be interesting to have Lisa go to Windemere. Is there a place to recharage her batteries there?

Nevra Coil might be her best bet, but she’d need a bodyguard to make sure the gnomes behave. She’d be amazing to them and some might not be able to stay away from her. Another option is carefully controlled lightning spells that are synched to her energy. That’s more of a Nyx thing.

Sounds good. I can probably write her in present tense, and we can post it on your site. Make your Sunday post and assess from there. If you want to do it, we should take the inner workings offline to email. Now I want to watch an old Bugs Bunny cartoon called A Connecticut Rabbit in King Arthur’s Court for some reason.

We’ll see what happens. Sunday will either have it go this way or the original plan. It’s a chaotic weekend for me with recovery from dental work and I promised the kid we’d go to the zoo for all their Halloween stuff. Think the time away might help me clear my head too.

You don’t often get time away, and it is useful.

True. Though, I’ll probably still be in pain. Have to bring a bunch of pudding along for the trip.

I have half an idea for you, what about a series of news like stories from people who witnessed something happen, either one of your heros doing something, or just something odd that might be linked to some event?

You mean like Windemere News stories? I’ll have to give it some thought. Kind of like a person on the street type of interview?

Exactly! It would be interesting and you’d get to see a new side of things, maybe some people don’t like heroes, or maybe the bad guys weren’t quite as bad as the heroes thought.
It’s just an idea.

I’ll see if it can work. Fantasy can be funny with the bystander stuff. It’s oddly matter-of-fact in Windemere when heroes and villains throw down.
