7 Activities for a Waiting Author

  1. Outline, plan, or write another book.  Bet you thought I’d put the obvious one at the end, huh?
  2. Become one with your inner squirrel and spend the days climbing trees in the local park.  Find nourishment on acorns and make a home out of leaves, which will inevitably collapse in the first strong breeze.  On the plus side, the outdoors may get rid of that author pallor.
  3. Avoid all forms of social media and the Internet in general.  Sure, you kept wandering to Twitter and Facebook when you were writing.  Not to mention all the research you did that led to an hour on Wikipedia.  Let’s not even talk about your once a week disappearance into YouTube.  How did you get a chapter done much less an entire first draft?
  4. You know those people who send you messages on your birthday?  Some of them even turn up at the door or inside your home because they have a key.  I believe they are called family and friends.  Well, it’s a good idea to meet with them and figure out the extent of your relationships.
  5. Revisit a sport you loved or try one that always interested you.  Perhaps there’s a club you can join to avoid buying equipment.  Just working up a sweat and . . . are muscles supposed to go pop?
  6. Take up a hobby.  Anything to make the hours go by.  Unless you have a job and then you might want to put some time into that.
  7. Perfect the art of napping.

About Charles Yallowitz

Charles E. Yallowitz was born, raised, and educated in New York. Then he spent a few years in Florida, realized his fear of alligators, and moved back to the Empire State. When he isn't working hard on his epic fantasy stories, Charles can be found cooking or going on whatever adventure his son has planned for the day. 'Legends of Windemere' is his first series, but it certainly won't be his last.

  2. Well, I think I have number sevewn down pat.

Thanks for sharing this Charles. From time to we need these reminders. Last night I was writing notes to myself about ways to use my bus/train time more efficiently.

    Have a great weekend.

Great list. I would add: 8. Scarf down chocolate dusted almonds by the truck load. ‘Cause that’s what I’m doing, along with number 1.

LOL! I embody #7 and if I get the chance to this weekend, I may institute a napping hour at my house. Thanks for the smile, Charles!
