The last of the champions, but one who has been involved in the prophecy for centuries, Dariana is an immortal telepath. Born from the light and the darkness, she has repeatedly been put to sleep and awakened to interact with each generation of heroes. Because of this, she is unsure of herself in social situations and is unable to make friends. Others have to make the first move with her and be ready to handle whatever questions and odd reactions that come out of her. Typically, Dariana will apologize even if she has not done anything wrong.
While she is immortal, Dariana can still get injured and be killed if she sustains enough injuries or is starved. Due to her telepathy, her mind is always susceptible to an attack and she can accidentally react to thoughts if she lets her guard down. This is another blow to her confidence, which the other champions set out to bolster. Becoming the first friends she has had in her life, Dariana is very protective of them.
This is not to say she is always timid and socially aloof. When faced with an event that is specific to the champion prophecy, Dariana becomes very focused and driven. Able to adjust her strength and pain tolerance, she is very dangerous in combat. If an enemy manages to avoid her fists and feet, they still have to get around her psychic attacks long enough for her to run out of energy. She tends to keep her full power hidden, so she tends to fight without major enhancements or only for 5-10 minutes at a time. The reason for this is that her immortality and connection to the prophecy puts her under a different set of rules from the other champions. Specifically, her great power is kept in check to avoid the prophecy from being undone and causing even more damage to Windemere than her enemies.
Interesting character. Toning down an immortal has to be a challenge. Busy as heck today, I’ll try to check back later.

Immortal characters are always a challenge, but more for heroes than villains. An evil immortal is an obstacle while a good one needs to have some kind of hindrance. Big fan of mental issues stemming from living for so long.

That makes perfect sense to me.

Another option is having a ‘kryptonite’ for them. Something to remove their immortality. Funny thing though is that many people don’t realize there is a slight difference between longevity and immortality powers. Longevity is living forever, but still able to get sick or die from injuries. Immortality is the one with the regeneration. Dariana definitely has more of a high level longevity since she can be killed and needs medical attention if severely injured.

Interesting, and I like the Kryptonite idea.

Can’t go wrong with the classics. Though, I’ve noticed DC heroes are the ones with such weaknesses. Funniest has to be Power Girl’s original weakness to ‘raw, unprocessed, natural materials’.

Wow. The fact that she can die makes her very compelling. That makes me root for her more.

She’s a tough character to explain in detail. I’ve called her a walking spoiler before since she reveals so much about the champions, the Baron, the gods, and Windemere in general.

She’s a late entry to the heroes, but comes in with an impact. 🙂

Guess that’s better than having no books to read. 🙂 Not by much though.

The worst thing is I don’t have much time to read right now.

I’ve been sticking to graphic novels and manga lately. Easier to read those when I’m being stalked by whatever animal my son is pretending to be.

There’s an echo in here! I too, find her a very interesting character – I love how detailed your backstories are, Charles 🙂

Thanks. Dariana has a very colorful and interesting past that comes out during the story. Not sure where the echo is. Think I missed something.

Got it. I guess there isn’t much to say since her background is very spoiler heavy.
