Timoran Wrath by Jason Pedersen
So I’m still getting over whatever I was hit by and I couldn’t think of a good teaser to put here. Then I got to thinking about the promo stuff for the next Windemere book. One of the things I wanted to make a post about is Barbarian Culture because the next book focuses on Timoran.
Now, I could just blab away and spew information in that May post. Yet, I want this to be more interesting and interactive. So, I’m opening to floor to those that wander through the blog.
What do you want to know about being a barbarian in Windemere?
To help, I’ll give a brief explanation of what has been established. Instead of your standard brutes, the barbarians in Windemere are closer to philosopher warriors. At least Timoran’s tribe is like this. They have arts, agriculture, and a system beyond ‘biggest one smash smallest one’. You can have a civil conversation with a barbarian about things other than battle. They still have an affinity for fighting, but it isn’t all they’re about if you decide to chat with them. Still, many people mistake them for the destructive berserkers of the old days when their rage controlled them. So there’s a lot of misunderstandings that cause conflict.

For all the Secret Project volunteers, I apologize for the delay. I contacted Amazon to see if things would move ahead, but I haven’t heard back. Until they make the change, I can’t really do anything. Didn’t realize it would take this long.
Legends of Windemere 
I would like to know how someone like Timoran feels living the hero’s life and not being with his own people all the time. Is he self-conscious around those who are smaller or does he feel superior?Would he rather marry someone from his culture or pursue someone like Nyx? What does he miss most about home?

I’ll see what I can do. This was more for barbarians in general than Timoran, but it does bring up the question about how barbarians interact with others.

How are Windemere barbarians different from a Conan type of barbarian?

Got it. I was never clear on the Conan barbarian type. It felt like he was more of a loner than a tribe person.

I remember seeing the movies back in the day. I also wondered how barbarians differed from the Vikings (or at least the concept that others had of them).

I was thinking the original stories in regards to Conan. I have a collection of those and it’s interesting how the movies were so different. As odd as it sounds, the remake’s Conan was closer to the book version than Arnie. With Vikings, the big difference is they’re seafaring raiders while barbarians are more land-based.

Charles, wonder how these barbarians switch the brain for battle. They are philosphy warriors. Do they debate the opponent into surrender? What kind of weapons do they use if they turn their brain to fight. Think something might be different for this group. 💛 Elizabeth

How do tribal conflicts work out with these barbarians? Do they sit around negotiating peacefully? If so, at what point, do the axes get pulled out and body parts start flying?

I’m so pooped after my seminar, push Tuesday, and a cocktail hour that I don’t have a real question. I went out of my way to establish the other side of my Amazon’s, and to hint that the tribal dwarves have their own culture. Where is the line between not enough, and too much?

Good question. I think it comes down to answering the basics about how the culture works. Mostly in connection to outsiders and plot important events.
