Birthday To Me: Note the Missing Word

Today has sucked.  Last night I started having a raspy cough and decided to see a doctor today.  The wife was in the same boat, but with her usual bronchitis.  First, that insurance issue wasn’t as fixed as I thought.  We’re on Medicaid until May 1st when our old plan takes us back.  This is one of those programs where you’re covered, but with something that is accepted less than a kick to the groin.  Found a clinic though and spent the birthday morning getting checked out.  Sadly, I’m not done because there was a blip on the EKG and I have to see a cardiologist to make sure it’s nothing serious.  There goes my Monday at least.

Honestly, I really should have seen something like this coming.  My week got destroyed by errands early on while I tried to get things ready for that special project. Still waiting for that to go forward, but it still be delayed due to the disease.  Plus side is that the kid is doing much better today.  He was home for 2 days and that killed all momentum I had for working.  The first day was checking on him every 5-10 minutes and carrying him to where he had to go.  The second day was him being more active until an afternoon of crying over everything.  With the wife going down, I can’t hand him off to her and recover energy.  So I might be more quiet than usual some days.

With the health thing in the air, I don’t think I’m going to be expecting a lot of success in other areas.  My plan was going to be to use the next two weeks to set up stuff for the Crossing Bedlam sequel.  Just designing new characters for a redesigned Lloyd and Cassidy to run into.  All I’ve done is list the stops, list of vehicles, and a basic idea for each spot.  Maybe I’ll get lucky and finish all of that by the end of the week.  Maybe I’ll also develop a healing factor and win the lottery.  Needless to say, I have very little faith in my success.  Other projects have been stalled too because I’m just too tired to be annoying over email.

To anyone who volunteered for the Secret Project, I’m hoping it’s okay if I put you on the list for the next Windemere release.  Not sure when that will happen, but I’m praying it happens in May.  This is where I’d normally put a list of goals.  I don’t really feel up to it after everything that happened over the last couple of days.  Nearly 2 PM and this is the first chunk of ‘me time’ I’ve had.  Royally sucks.

About Charles Yallowitz

Charles E. Yallowitz was born, raised, and educated in New York. Then he spent a few years in Florida, realized his fear of alligators, and moved back to the Empire State. When he isn't working hard on his epic fantasy stories, Charles can be found cooking or going on whatever adventure his son has planned for the day. 'Legends of Windemere' is his first series, but it certainly won't be his last.

  2. What a bummer. How come birthdays start being just another day as we grow older. I guess it beats the alternative.

Happy Birthday Charles! It might not be a happy day, but I sure hope this message goes to the mojo answering machine and takes it as an order for the rest of the year.
Take care, and hope you and your family all recover fast!

  10. That sucks indeed. I’m sorry you’re all under the weather, and it affected your birthday. Good luck on Monday. I hope you manage to get more ‘you’ time and that you have a happy, comfortable nights rest – sounds like you need it.

Put me on that list and please just rest and take care of yourself, your wife and child. Sometimes that’s all you get a chance to do. You seem to have done quite a bit for Bedlam two, outlining the new characters, give yourself a break, if you can.
