So I’m hunting for blog posts to do in October and a good suggestion was made from the list of ideas.  Halloween is the big event that month, so I’ll be focusing on monsters.  This means two things that require a little participation.

Monster Maker!

For those new to the blog or missed the previous 2 times, this is a little game that started in Israel for me.  I was there on a summer trip and a few fellow tour members liked giving me fake words to turn into monsters.  I transferred it here and had some fun.  An example is the following from last year courtesy of John W. Howell:

Meagain

“A majestic horse that roams the prairie of Southliver.  Most of them are white and brown, but there have been sightings of black, red, and purple colors.  Unlike other horses, the Meagain gives off an odd glow that is stronger depending on the purity of the spirit.  They are also much more intelligent.  People have been able to communicate clearly with these animals even without a common language.  Meagains are also good problem solvers and those in captivity have been known to pick locks with their narrow tongues.  Avoid getting kicked because they have barbs on their hooves that can deliver a powerful hallucinogen.”

The rules are simple:

  1. Put 2-3 fake words in the comments.  These are words that don’t exist, so I can’t go looking something up for inspiration.  All straight from the mind.
  2. I’ll divide the suggestions among the 5 Fridays of October and give credit to each contributor.
  3. All of us have fun.  Hopefully.

Now for the second bit of fun to cover Mondays and Wednesdays:

Windemere Bestiary

There is a lengthy poll at the bottom of this post to get votes on monsters to highlight from the LEGENDS OF WINDEMERE books.  A lot of strange ones have popped up, so this is a time to delve further into their habits and origins.  I won’t be putting Drites and Dragons on the list due to them already getting quite a bit of attention.  That isn’t to say Fizzle won’t be lending a hand here . . . mwahaha!

So please vote in the poll, leaves some Monster Maker Words, and feel free to suggest a creature that you liked in the books and I forgot to include.  Enjoy.

About Charles Yallowitz

Charles E. Yallowitz was born, raised, and educated in New York. Then he spent a few years in Florida, realized his fear of alligators, and moved back to the Empire State. When he isn't working hard on his epic fantasy stories, Charles can be found cooking or going on whatever adventure his son has planned for the day. 'Legends of Windemere' is his first series, but it certainly won't be his last.

  2. Fun stuff ahead. Reminds me I need to finish writing Macabre Macaroni. I voted for the cockatrice out of professional curiosity. I have an important one in one of my books, and even got him tattooed on my shoulder. Fun words? Those are hard. Jambphibians, cryptiles, hemocites.
