How can silence
Be so deafening?
As if plunging my ears
Into an symphony of screams
No words within the quiet
Yet my hearing is stifled
Could there still be voices
That are no longer drowned?
By the noises of reality

I have to know what inspired you to write this.
I agree that silence speaks when words can’t.

Not sure. Kind of came to me. Maybe just a lack of silence since it’s been a loud week . . . month . . . year.

Cool. There’s good silence and bad silence. I’ve experienced both kinds this year.

Me too. Seems they show up whenever they want too.

I like silence sometimes. Little bits of it then back to noise. Nice poem.

Thanks. It can be fun. Though a little disconcerting when it happens after a lot of noise.

I like silence during the day, you can almost say I crave it, but at night, I cannot fall asleep without the noise, the cacophony of life. I hate that its like that!

After a loud day, I do need a little noise to fall asleep. Can’t really do anything about it, so I’m at the whim of whatever is outside. What do you do for sleeping noise?

Well, believe it or not, since we are mentioning that sometimes u cant avoid it in any way, I used to fall asleep to the sound of my dad snoring.
Now I just tend to focus on the passing cars!
What sleepy-noise do you like?

The whirring of a ceiling fan. Too many random noises in the house to depend on anything happening for regularity.

True! I used to keep a loud clock by the bedside, but my husband hates the clock noise so he broke the clock 😀

My biggest issue is light, which I think is throwing off my sleeping habits. We have two alarm clocks and the one on the cable box, which are all on my side of the room. Don’t even use the alarm clocks, so I don’t know why the wife won’t let me get rid of them.

I actually have a white noise machine that I use. As for the light problem, you should follow Oloriel’s lead. Her husband accidentally broke the clock, remember?

Love this.
Been listening to Simon and Garfunkel, haven’t you? 😉
