This Is Why I Stay Inside

So I ran out to get my new glasses.  The world is so much brighter now.  Not in the way of intelligence after a few of the psycho drivers I saw.  Here’s the two that made me wish I could teleport, fly, or never leave the house:

  1. Stopped at a red light, a woman gets out of the passenger seat and goes into the back seat.  Seen it before, so nothing strange there.  We start going along and I see her silhouette pulling stuff out of a bag.  Then she holds up something with wiggling legs, waving arms, and pigtails.  A diaper change while her husband was driving.  I’ve dealt with stinky and wet diapers in the car, but I would NEVER do this.  Especially when we’re passing various parking lots, stores, and side streets that one could easily pull over to.  One wrong move and a dirty diaper is the least of your child’s problems.
  2. Be careful when leaving a parking lot and having to go across a few lanes of incoming traffic to get in the direction you want to go.  If you can’t see what’s coming in the lane you’re aiming for then it’s probably a good idea to either wait or find a place to do a U-Turn.  It’s stupid to gun your engine, shoot across two lanes that includes cutting off a bus, and nearly slamming into the people who had the right of way and NO IDEA YOU WERE THERE!  I don’t give a crap that you’re unhappy about me letting you in and now you have a bus driver honking his horn at your stupid ass.  I don’t care that the guy behind me decided to let you sit longer while she went by you.  All I care about is that you tried to make our cars kiss because you thought a blind sprint was the smart thing to do.

This is why I try to walk everywhere.  Though in Florida this didn’t keep me safe from cars since sidewalks down there are occasionally considered parking space or a ‘secret’ lane.

About Charles Yallowitz

Charles E. Yallowitz was born, raised, and educated in New York. Then he spent a few years in Florida, realized his fear of alligators, and moved back to the Empire State. When he isn't working hard on his epic fantasy stories, Charles can be found cooking or going on whatever adventure his son has planned for the day. 'Legends of Windemere' is his first series, but it certainly won't be his last.

  1. I can sympathise Charles. Here in Bristol, UK, we have the problem of people jumping red lights. It happens literally ALL the time! Red lights are red for a reason don’t you know! People have GOTto stop for them – it’s dangerous not to! (OK, rant over!)

  2. I’m with you. Going out is dangerous. I went out yesterday and had a guy on a two lane road pass an oncoming car and couldn’t quite make it back. Lucky for me there was a big shoulder on my right.

It is not just the roads. Parking lots are as bad. Nearly got creamed yesterday by a car zipping up the down lane, only to turn onto another lane where the pedestrians thought it was just cool to walk down the center of the lane instead of off to one side. Somebody is going to die.

  4. Idaho drivers are horrible. From the old farmer who insists on driving 10 mph under the speed limit to the guys who insist on crossing three lanes at the exact moment of their turnoff. We have them all.

I feel you, although I am not a driver. I dont know what it is, but people here drive on the sidewalk like they are in Need for Speed and honk to me and my son to “get out of their way”. Heck, msot of the times I feel like people are trying to purposly run me over on the sidewalk.

    • People get even worse when it’s raining, snowing, or even threatening to do so. I never understood why people think driving faster in snow is a good idea. Hope you and your son avoid the crazies.

We try, but its hard when the security that is supposed to police and ticket the crazies is driving the same way themselves. It just makes me hate to go outside.
And its true about the snow, and rain too, always more accidents on bad weather, because drivers just panick or get frustrated too much as soon as they sit at the wheel on bad weather.
If you ask me, id ban cars and reinstate chariots.

      • Does every driver in your area learn from Grand Theft Auto? That’s just terrifying.

I think a lot of people expect everyone else to be the safe driver. No idea really because I’m paranoid.
