This set of 8 short poems stem from a conversation from years back. It was a philosophical discussion that went all over the place and eventually landed on the concept of sin. We discussed how every person is slightly sinful at some point in their lives and many people have their preferred sin. We’re going solely by the vague definition of the word. For example, pride can be boasting after winning a video game and lust can be the simple passing thought of ‘I want her/him’. This is going into a bigger discussion than I had intended and it’s one that works better in person. Here is the structure of Rondelet for those wondering:
Line 1 :: A—four syllables
Line 2 :: b—eight syllables
Line 3 :: A—repeat of line one
Line 4 :: a—eight syllables
Line 5 :: b—eight syllables
Line 6 :: b—eight syllables
Line 7 :: A—repeat of line one
Greed
Is Greed your sin?
Do you always want to own more?
Is Greed your sin?
A strong thirst for materials.
Wanting more than an even share.
Refusing to give any scraps.
Is Greed your sin?
Envy
Are you Envy?
Do you get jealous all the time?
Are you Envy?
You want what everyone holds dear.
The wins of others cause you pain.
Even if you were not involved.
Are you Envy?
Wrath
Is Wrath your sin?
Do you rage with every slip?
Is Wrath your sin?
Anger is your natural phase.
Without it you are lost and scared.
Looking for a reason to snap.
Is Wrath your sin?
Gluttony
Live Gluttony?
Do you devour all you see?
Live Gluttony?
You indulge until you are sick.
You never think that you should stop.
The world is your endless buffet.
Live Gluttony?
Sloth
Is Sloth your sin?
Do you shy away from all work?
Is Sloth your sin?
You sit on your ass and waste air.
Only watching others work hard.
No spark or urge within your frame.
Is Sloth your sin?
Lust
Is Lust your sin?
Do you crave the touch of bare flesh?
Is Lust your sin?
You stare at others with hot thoughts.
Judging everyone by body
And how you dream they are in bed.
Is Lust your sin?
Pride
Is Pride your sin?
Do you believe yourself a god?
Is Pride your sin?
You will never make a mistake.
Failure is the fault of others.
You are too perfect to take blame.
Is Pride your sin?
Seven Tastes of Sin
Are you all sins?
Do you have evil in your veins?
Are you all sins?
You live for every dark act.
Never caring what others think.
You only wish to feel a rush.
Are you all sins?
Wow. Ambitious! With your rondeletes you make me feel so lazy. But I enjoyed reading them!

Thanks. The Gluttony one was rather frustrating because of the 4-syllable limit on a few lines.

And I meant to add “so lazy as a writer.” I was almost too lazy to type that.

Wow, this is great. Nice work, really powerful. And again you’re stretching yourself with the structure – very admirable!

Thanks. The rondelet isn’t as complicated as some of the others. I tend to do better with syllable limits.

Very nice! I like the Seven Sin Rondelets!
These poems are dark and sort of scary, but still they’re pretty cool!

Thanks. Didn’t mean to go scary with them, but I can see it.

Are you going to use these in a book?

Not exactly. I do have a series where every main villain relates to a deadly sin. There are 9 books in the series, so there’s also going to be the ‘All Sin’ and the ‘Original Sin’ villains too. Stemmed from the main character being named Sin.

Is this a work-in-progress or is it complete and just awaiting publication?

Work-in-progress. This series comes after one-shot, Clyde, and Darwin. It’s going to be tough because I’ll have to stop at a few points to jump to other series because of chronology. Hard to have Sin go to Elysium before it awakens or team up with Analise before she gains her powers in her series.

I see, well, I look forward to it!
Sounds pretty interesting (the one about Sin, that is). 🙂

It’s going to be a challenging series to write. Legends of Windemere is one thing, but Sin has 4 Act, multiple villain, world spanning adventures.

Sounds like something I wouldn’t be able to write. Way to complicated for simple ol’ Me! lol

My outlining addiction comes in handy with that series. It might not be as big as I think.

Ugh. outlines! I didn’t get along with them very well in highschool! lol

They were rather bland in high school, so I have my own version developed. It runs like a mini-first draft at times. If you ever got your hands on one of my notebooks, you’d wonder why I didn’t stop shut up and move on to the actual novel. 🙂

Funny! I’ll bet one day you can auction those notebooks off for thousands of dollars! 🙂

Really nice. Each one had a very cool line like ” you sit on your ass and waste air and you stare at others with hot thoughts.”

Thanks. That makes me smile because I worked really hard to give these poems some oomph.
